Totally agree. But it's not a silver bullet. Kindness and compassion are eventually a two-way street in the course of any conversation. Far too often (online and offline) the kindness is not returned.
Not saying don't do it! I'm saying we must work very hard at it. I stopped doing it so much online because I find it much more difficult to communicate tone and intent in text than face to face. Not just for myself, but for everyone. When I can speak online with others who are tolerant, intelligent, and eloquent, I'm far less likely to be misunderstood, for my intent to be misconstrued, etc. Because communities such as this one are relatively rare, I have allowed the filter bubble to form for the most part. And that was my conscious and intentional decision.
