A majority of them at LMNTL and the rest I got with some modules I bought secondhand. No braided, but I would like to get some!

Does anybody have here a West Coast (Buchlaesque) setup in a 104HP size? If so, show it, please. If not, can we speculate, how it should look like? I know that minimal one should have a complex VCO (that’s a lot HP!), function generator, random source, low pass gate, VCA, and mixer…

My current setup fits that description:

Finding it wonderfully versatile. Mostly use the Disting in one of it’s delay modes.

Looking very nice. Maths is Maths…it’s irreplaceable, but are there less HP alternatives for Marbles and DPO? I think I’ll need Pamela’s New Workout for sure and maybe two other narrow (2hp or Erica Synths Pico series style) modules, so I have to save some space.
I think Marbles is a must (I played with it a lot in VCV Rack), but I wish it’d have less HP. I know there’s Antumbra Cara, but maybe there are also other alternatives I’m not aware of? It doesn’t have to be a Marbles clone, but it has to have all its power.

I had similar thoughts when I was putting together the skiff, but with both Marbles and the DPO they pack an awful lot into their HP (Marbles for instance has random, trigger, note outs, as well as quantisation, sequencing etc.), and when I tried to replicate the same functionality, I either matched or exceeded the HP, but with worse UX.

After playing with this setup for a while now, I really appreciate the full size knobs and built in normalisations in Marbles and the DPO.

The shown-at-Superbooth-and-available-for-sale-later-this-year Make Noise “Microsound Music Machine” definitely belongs in this thread. It is housed in one of their 104hp powered skiff and is essentially a stereo update of the System Concrète, containing a Wogglebug, Maths, Mult, Morphagene, QPAS, Mimeophon, XOH, and about 10hp of space to spare, which could easily house the X-Pan for some extra stereo mixing, crossfading, and panning. As @barnjazz commented in the Mimeophon thread, “who needs an oscillator??”

I agree, I think that’s an absolutely superb mini system they have been assembling there. There’s enough potential in that setup to sustain a lifetime of music-making, with perhaps the addition of some external mics and preamps for creating source content. I already use Woggle, Maths, Morph, and QPAS in my Make Noise 7U and have found them all indispensable and really satisfying. Excited for Mimeophon.

My 104hp rig is basically a complete recording studio at this point:

Working on ergonomics; gettin’ there.

How do you find the Synthrotek LPG? Has it similar sound to any more recognizable low pass gate?

I’ve had a few others over the years (Doepfer A-101-2, Optomix, Sputnik quad, LxD), and I’d say the Synthrotek I built with the default vactrols is on the longer decay side.

It sounds good and generally works well, but I don’t understand why designers put CV attenuation on the control inputs–these should be offsets! Optomix is the same way, so it’s not a specific knock on the Synthrotek.

The resonance is on the wild side and not as useful to me as the Doepfer’s very flexible resonance & input level controls.

Overall, I like it a lot better than the LxD it replaced. Beware of the depth!

That sounds interesting. The pcb&panel set is only $25, so I’ll give it a try!

Quick questions, cant you just set Pam’s New Workout channel levels down to like 70%

I dont get how it is fiddley if you can just set it?

Ok did some amendments, and I think that I have a good system here. Decided to dig in and get a Teletype. Please critique, or praise xD…
Im very excited about this as a possibility.

Ooooh nice. I’d guess that you were a little short on LFOs? That said, I’m not sure how much heavy lifting Teletype can do for stuff like that. But you’ve got a lot of modules that would enjoy modulation and you may want to use Just Friends as a sound source.

You could swap out the Mix 4 for a 2hp Mix and save 1hp…

I’d say you’re trying to pack in too many sound sources (5-6?) into 104hp. Those micro mutable modules and others are going to be very tightly packed and not so ergonomic. Also clouds works best with attenuated modulation (JF is fixed) so that’s another consideration. I’d rethink the functionality a bit (sometimes less = more!) or go 6U. But each to their own and this might work for you

Yeah I think your right! I think im going to swap out nRings and pop in a 4hp quad LFO and a 4hp Quad attenuator. Thoughts? Or would you suggest something else. mPlaits and mRings are the ones that im hung up on. Perhaps Ill get a Make Noise Function.

For 8hp you could get Pamenla’s New Workout which gives you LFOs, attenuators, clocks, all sorts… And it comes in a tube! Not quite as expressive though - it’s more “set it and forget it”.

A nice thought! I am a bit weary of menu diving with the teletype. I think ill loose my mind with an the input lol.
