8HP Dual/Stereo VCA on the way… under the sticker is a bit more fun

I know it’s offtopic, but any chance there’ll be a 1U unity mixer sometime?

ALM Squid seems like a competitor in that department as well.

Yes I noticed most people have soft cases for their hard cases anyways. Don’t want to scuff up a beautiful investment like an Intellijel 7u case while gigging.

doable for sure, but not sure we have plans for that one yet. There is a 1U thread on the intellijel forum for ideas.

The size is just right… But it would be harder to stack things in your loop because it doesn’t have manual buttons for each channel; the Assimil8r has 8; the Bitbox has 16. You could use the extra space to put in something to trigger it though. Euro Samplers are so young, there is much to explore there.

I use Scales in sequence record mode to trigger and control pitch of 4 of the samples on the bitbox right now, and use 2 channels of quadratt to cross fade the voices so i can play any mix of the 4 channels with 1 little keyboard; and/or I can clock it for a sequence to play along side loops, by killing the input on the euroddl

i feel like those palette cases are gonna be what finally get me to get into eurorack :man_facepalming:t2: :money_with_wings:

i’m thinkin an effects focused system might be the best way to start.

Speaking of Dakim style looping, I’m currently putting together a 104hp skiff with a Morphagene core for the looping. I think of the Octatrack in Transition trick mode as my fav way of doing the Dakim thing, but hope the Morph can take that idea to the next level. Should be fun trying!

I think the morphagene is kind of hard to do realistic looping. It never seems to loop where you want it. I highly suggest for Dakim style looping to use a mannequins’ w/ with a cold Mac.
You can use the simple loop style he uses, but use the cold Mac to fade sounds in/out and degrade the loops too.

Can you describe how you are doing this in more detail?

I have both W/ and Cold Mac and still struggle with using them knowledgeably.

Thanks!

you get w/ looping in live mode and then enable record. then you send voltages to THAT. 0V will overdub, 0v to -5V will overwrite but attenuate the looping material before hearing it play back, 0v to +5v will overwrite the tape but attenuate the looping material after you hear it play back – this is the destructive looper  take any voltage that goes positive (with normalization) from cold mac (left, right, or, slope or crease) or anywhere else to do it. I like using slope out if it’s not otherwise occupied - so modulation of survey brings variation in the levels of destructiveness without going into the other overwrite direction.

does w/ just move the play head before the write head to get this behavior, or is something more complicated going on ? I wouldn’t think something that simple would sound like tape loop decay, but if it does that’s pretty cool

maybe I should adventure ovr to the proper thread

i believe the answer would be “no” – there are people on this forum with intimate knowledge of the technical side of both w/ and real life tape machines I’m sure but I’ll answer as best I can:

what w/ does is replace the erase head (in the tape metaphor) with an attenuator. -5V puts the attenuator before the read head, +5V puts it after the read head with everything in between lesser degrees of attenuation in both directions. As the manual describes it, w/ itself is doing the same action both direction, we’re just listening to the tape before attenuation rather than after. I guess this could be thought of as moving the play/read head as you said, but not in relation to the write head because it doesn’t affect how you’re hearing new material coming in - only looping material.

the video tutorial and manual are both really really good, and maybe there’s a technical map on the way too :open_mouth:

i reckon mods will move this whole convo to the w/ thread, but figured i’d answer here for now.

edit: here’s the section of the tutorial video that talks about this

Same honestly, I’ve been eyeing one and a mimeophon to start a little utility/fx rack to go with my 0coast.

With the Pallete in mind i wanted to make a complimentary rack for my 0-coast and MS-20 mini. I think i’m set on everything but the 1U row (but pretty close to set)

@wipeyadocsoff can you help me understand how the included 1/4” audio jacks work on this case? i’m having a hard time figuring out how to route external audio into the system and also be able to output the audio to my mixer. i feel so dumb for asking this but i legit cannot figure it out.

i guess simple answer - there is no way to do both for stereo. You have to get one of their 1U modules for input or output and connect it to the jacks.

yeah! they have connectors that connect to a few of their 1U modules (Stereo Line Out and Pedal IO) and Mixup (3U). There’s also a stereo line in 1U module that will connect to it that is not yet released. They talk about it in a bit more detail in the manual:

thank you!! this is super helpful. can’t wait to see how your case turns out.

to jump on board the intellijel palette train - I dreamed up this little guy this morning…

I left 2 hp open for a crow. It probably needs more VCAs, as the old adage goes… Also something to provide envelopes for just friends in sound mode… and before you know it I need way more hp again
