Have a question regarding the max4live device randomizer - anyone else notice it doesnt work anymore with 10.1 ? Huge bummer.

Would love to hear if there was a similar alternative m4l device in the meantime somebody knows of…

I got MDD Snake mapped to the Launch Control XL and it’s really awesome. I have the two rows mapped to pitch & the third row + the 8 faders mapped to velocity. It’s like a playable, hands on cross between Rene and the DFAM sequencer. Lighting quick techno patterns.

Thanks again.

Awesome! I use mine with a Midi Fighter Twister - modified the patch slightly to send out the chaser light info to the encoder lights on the twister. If the lights on the XL respond to MIDI info I highly recommend trying it!

I can’t extol the virtues of the Drum Buss enough. It’s such a powerful effect. I have been experimenting a lot with its integrated transient shaper, it’s such a nice way to automate a subtle evolution of a drum part. It’s even good on vocals!

I’m surprised to find that the last post here was Dec 2019, maybe there is a more recent general Ableton thread I don’t know about.
Is anyone using an expert sleepers module as a way to turn a eurorack cv and gate into midi in ableton? Doesn’t seem possible in cv-tools. Is there a hack I’m missing with the tools there combined with a max device maybe? Also, does anyone know a way to output hz/v (and s-trig) for ms20 control? Thanks in advance

Actually @HateNames to answer your question, it’s kind of telling that there’s a post about Ableton 10 after a long while… To YET AGAIN talk about CV tools / CV in and out of Ableton and Expert Sleepers modules or other modular interface (which feels like a major part if not half of this thread), and I think there really ought to be a specific topic for this as I mentionned it already earlier in this thread because it seems like a topic that’s very necessary to a lot of people here and I find having it sort of coming and going out of the general Ableton 10 thread is not helping those who need it to find the informations they’re looking for and it’s otherwise clogging the thread for those who don’t use CV (which is a very tiny portion of Ableton 10’s overall use cases and features, so tiny that you can’t even access it without the full suite since it’s linked to M4L)

It’s heavy work for the already hard working moderators though so I understand why it’s not being done.

All love to you all anyway, hope you’ll find your answer @HateNames !!!

You can use the clock in or cv in to receive gates from eurorack. You cant receive CV as “notes” because there`s no plug in in the CV tools that allows that.
But you could buy the Expert Sleepers Silent way which has a Cv to midi converter. I used it once to use rene to play a melody in live.

any chance of sharing that patch?

For sure! I’ll dig it up tomorrow. If I remember correctly a couple of the patterns in MDD Snake don’t display quite right on the MFT lights, but most are fine.

@dansimco here’s some older versions of the patch I dug up. I had improved on these on my 2012 MBP, but it’s currently out of commision thanks to the usual GPU issues with those machines :frowning:

Some of the snake patterns don’t display properly in this version, but it isn’t too difficult to sort out if you’re familiar with Max.

Put the MDD__Snake_V3 patch on a MIDI track. Put the MDD__MFT_Snake_V3 patch on a different MIDI track, and set the MIDI To selector in that track to your MIDI FIghter Twister. You’ll also have to set the MIDI Channel selector to 2, otherwise it will send on channel one and won’t work properly (channel 1 sets the LED rings, channel 2 sets the indent indicator).

Oh yeah and you’ll have to MIDI learn the knobs for each page of Snake.

Hopefully I can find the time to repair these versions (or my MBP) and if so I’ll add them to this thread.

Would anybody be able to assist me in figuring out how to route audio between inputs and outputs of my audio interface without monitoring them? I want to get audio through Ableton (or from it) in to my norns (for Cheat Codes) and back without causing feedback.

One example; OP-1 in to Ableton for some filtering, in to Cheat Codes, but only hear the Cheat Codes wet audio on my master track so I don’t get feedback.

I’m happy to try to! I’ll get back to you later. What interface are you using (just out of interest)?

EDIT: While thinking about this between morning coffees I realised that I need to know now many I/O your interface has.

I have a Komplete Audio 6 mk2, while it claims to be 6 ins and outs, minus the S/pdif ports it’s really 4 mono ins and 4 mono outs…

Here is an example of a build I did that… didn’t go great. I feel like I’m making some REALLY simple in to something more difficult. I know I’m going to face palm once all is said and done… which makes it all the more embarrassing to ask!!

Here’s a screen shot of something that generated Feedback when I turned on the monitoring:

Happend to me sooo many times. The great thing about Ableton is that there are often many approaches to a specific problem/solution.

Here is mine:

Place the external audio plugin after the fx chain of choice. “Audio to” goes to Norns and “audio from” comes from Norns. If you turn monitor all the way down on Norns, you’ll only have the “wet” signal coming back to Ableton.

Does this make sense or what you were looking for?

Does Norns IN still register sound with the monitor all the way down…? I’m in Los Angeles and am up every three hours because I’m on baby duty tonight so I’m going to give this a shot in about 5 or 6 hours when at my desk. Thanks for this! I’ve never used the Ext. Audio tool before.

Would this work equally well with a few different instances? So, having two or three audio tracks together, each with a similar setup?

Yes it does. Monitor level regulates how much of the IN signal is passed on to OUT directly (AFAIK).

Just coming from baby duty… now back to work. Enjoy the little one

I looked around but couldn’t find it — was CV Tools ever broken off into its own thread? If it has, I’ll move this question over there. If not, here goes…

Is it possible to send a Run/Stop from CV Tools to control modules like Pam’s New Workout? I would think that there is, but I can’t seem to find it. Any suggestions would be appreciated, thank you.

Try:

Max4Live > MaxAudioEffect > CV Clock Out

Set the 'Transport" to output whereever you want, and click the button at the bottom right to “Gate” instead of “Trigger”.

Also keep in mind that for things like clock or start/stop, since they are just gate / trigger signals you can also use generic midi clips with the outputs routed to the appropriate place (ie a clock is just a bunch of gates at whatever tempo or pulses per quarter note a given module is expecting)

Oh, I didn’t realize that transport was the thing I was looking for. It was there all along. I’ve been using it to clock my system, never realizing what the second half of the plugin does. Jeez.

Thank you very much, I appreciate the help.

I just wanted to mention that the lockdown sale that Ableton is having (30% off software) ends tomorrow.

I actually got an upgrade license from lite to suite (I got the lite version for free with a midi controller) on thomann for the equivalent of about $330. I would probably never have bought the full version, so for people like me this might be worth it…
