Yeah, I had to reteach myself to play without the sustain pedal. Thankfully I’m not making the kind of music where that really matters, but it was still a hard habit to break.

i’ve been waiting for quite a few weeks now, which has left me wondering if i’ve missed the boat altogether

I was just let in. It took about a month. I think it’s taking longer now than it did at first because more people are applying to join the beta.

I got in about a week ago and it took about a month.

It feels great, comping implementation is fantastic and the new spectral plugins are their own thing and very Ableton-y in spirit.

My completely subjective impression is that the longer people waited before applying, the longer they’re having to wait for access. Could be wrong though. Do Ableton cap the number of beta licenses?

It seems to work very much like a line to a club. I headed straight for the Centercode-site as soon as I heard of Live11 and was let in one hour later. Then the line outside the door just grew.

Comping really is great and so intuitive. Haven’t looked into the Spectral devices but I love the new Redux.

I’ve been personally loving the new slight tweaks to the midi info next to the piano roll in tracks, the new implementation of chorus and the scale clamping. I wanna check out more the beta stuff, but in general it’s good.

Took me about a month to get added to the new beta too. I haven’t recorded anything external yet, just messing around with all the new devices, and I have to say, they are all pretty incredible.

My favorite is this new PitchLoop89 device by Robert Henke. It’s basically a looper/delay with some very interesting ways to mangle the buffer, and has some really cool aliasing effects (I think? when the segment gets super short). Sometimes it reminds me of the clouds module/other granular things with the position stuff. There’s also this very cool cross feedback routing that allows you to basically ping pong repeats to the buffers. With the pitch settings, it can create really interesting harmonies, but you can set them so they don’t like fly off into atonal high pitch stuff like normal pitching delays.

The new Hybrid Reverb is really cool too. The algo side definitely feels more to me like a valhalla reverb, where there’s a dropdown of a bunch of algorithms and then a few easy to use tweaking parameters…not one algorithm and then a bunch of kind-of-not-so-useful parameters of the standard reverb. There are some pretty cool IRs and presets in there, I especially like the intercom/phone ones in the special folder, as well as the one called “stutter dub”.

The spectral devices are fun. My favorite feature of those so far is on the time one…the freeze with short little envelopes. You can set it to act sort of like a gate or something and then pop through these little pieces and do weird stuff to them with the spectral delay section. I like that the visualization does different colors for the effected spectrum and the raw spectrum so you can see what the effect is doing. These definitely do have very distinct, digital resonator artifact-y kind of sounds, so you have to be going for that, but if you are, they’re a pretty cool creative tool.

Here’s a little thing I made using two sampled synth voices and a couple instances of PitchLoop89, Hybrid Reverb, and Spectral Time on the birds-esque sound.

The new chorus, phaser, etc. all feel more like using pedals and not plugins with awkward interfaces anymore which is nice. I need to try the new Redux, and the new “Inspired By Nature” devices, I haven’t yet.

thanks! that is probably mostly coming from the warm sound on the pad which are from samples from mars incredibly recorded library (their Oberheim OB-SX). The bird sound started from a quite digital source…their Yamaha DX100.

Just upgraded from Live 9 to 10 after a long hiatus from Ableton and I’m noticing a behavior that I don’t remember.

I’m running a step sequencer and trying to record midi into a clip in session mode. For some reason I am unable to record midi on the same track as the sequencer, it only works if I route the midi to a different track. I’ll see and hear the midi output from the sequencer but no midi notes are being recorded. Track is definitely armed for recording. If I open a new midi track and have it receive input from the first track it records the midi just fine. I’ve tried several different sequencers (all M4L)

Has this always been the case? I feel like I used to be able to generate and record midi into clips on the same track in Live 9, but like I said it’s been a while so maybe I’m remembering wrong!

as far as i know this has always been the intended behavior. the sequencer is essentially a midi effect, happening ‘after’ the clip in the chain. you’d need to run it into a separate track to capture the midi it generates.

Sorry if this is a braindead question and I’m not seeing an obvious answer… but I’m wondering if anyone has ideas for the best way to route polyphonic midi to multiple destination channels… sort of like the quad-midi to cv thing Vermona makes. I’d like to play multiple monosynth plugins polyphonically from a single midi sequence and have a midi device allocate voices among multiple destinations… does that make sense? Is there any simple way to do this?
