Aeoner - ZANSHO 残暑 (OP1/OPZ cassette + risograph photo zine)

I just released a new cassette beat tape made with the OPZ, the OP-1 & PO-33 + a risography fanzine!

It´s available on Bandcamp:

ZANSHO 残暑 is a collection of memories and textures from a journey to Japan in the last days of '17 summer.

The beat tape presentes 12 minimalistic hip-hop grooves sampling in 8-bits vinyl records, mixtapes, videos and lost & found sounds from Tokyo and Kyoto. The samples were all processed in analog fx. All beats were recorded directly on tape, in a TASCAM 424MK2 4-track.

[Edit: as I don´t want to spam music, I´m just editing the topic to tell you about the bonus/companion beat tape]

I´ve also released the bonus/companion beat tape Tomodachi 友達, a work about friendship.

It´s the direct mixing board + ambient recording from a lofi, strictly Pocket Operators live made in the legendary chiptune laboratory Café La Siesta in Kyoto, in the late summer of '17 and 7 remixes of the original tracks made by a finest selection of beatmakers from Japan, Brazil and UK (including Steeezo, Ally Mobbs and the chiptune wizards from Chippanze netlabel).

The fanzine presents analog photos shoot in Japan with lofi disposable Fuji & Kodak cameras from konbinis.

Those photos reflects the beauty of Japan late summer cityscapes, endless record digging and beatmaker reunions with friends.

It is handmade and printed in risograph, with exploding colors, never fully dried ink and characteristic lofi textures, which makes every limited hand-numbered edition unique.

Hope that you like it!

Hi! Thank you very much. It was a long project (we shoot more than 700 photos and selecting was hard; the riso process is very enjoyable but full of trial and errors; digging all the beats samples in the records, tapes, field recordings; recording the beats in 2 tracks in the Tascam, final touches/master in Ableton with this very hard/closed mix material…) but we liked the result! Hope that you enjoy the beats.

Thank you very much for your kind words, @polyoptics! We took eons to finish it (and there’s also the live/remixes tape that will be released this week!) but it was a very fun journey exploring all the photos & sound material that we made/dig in JapN then creating a new narrative wity them. Super happy that you liked!

Everything about this is visually gorgeous + sonically tasty. It’s the best use of the PO-33 I’ve heard yet - that lo-fi sound it imparts really fits with your material so well.

Hi @naxuu! I’m super happy with your words. I love the PO-33 ultra-lofi, crunchy texture and I think that it sounds good when recorded straight to tape, of you are into little imperfections
