Wow!! This is very cool. Love to see more synths in the banana groovebox format (maybe my favourite) From the demos the LPG definitely has a different character from the Double Knot. I’m curious, I went over the manual briefly, and listened to some demos, can Alea generate pitch CV from the shift register like the double knot? I see the individual gate outputs, and most of the demos are rhythmic in nature, not melodic.

(not my demo)

this sounds fabulous!! Thanks for finding this!

I wrote to the maker of the Alea and they said they weren’t sure that it wouldn’t damage the DK because the outputs all peak at 9v so I ended up not ordering it. Let us know how well it plays with the DK because they seem like a perfect pair minus the voltage differences.

Yeah would be curious about this…looking at the manual…internally the double knot operates 0-9v and it’s all going into opamps, otas and robust 4000 chips so I can’t imagine it matters, but would be good to know for a project I’m working on in case someone wanted to interface with double knot (mine also spits out 9v triggers)

i did not need to see this :rage:

I believe it operates identically to the DK, in that the gates from the SR add to the frequency set at the VCO, so you get kind of steppy notes. That said (and also like the DK IMO) it is fairly static melodically.

You are welcome!

I did not run into any issues cross-patching. That said, I mostly just synced them and let them do their thing. You can send the triangle outs from DK to the grey inputs on the alea VCOs to get synced pitches which is pretty cool.

Haha, sorry! Would make a nice holiday gift for oneself

I got a DK V1 today (2nd hand) and I just started to play around with it. When I patch feedback loops in the lower Shift Register it only works when I patch bit 5 back to data in. Here I can create rhythms with the Enter bit high/low buttons. But when I patch bit 6, 7 or 8 back to data in I always here the clock pulse, no matter what I set with the bit high/low buttons.
No problems though with the upper Shift Register. Here I can patch every feedback length I want and program rhythms.
I’m afraid this is a hardware problem – or could it be a user error?

Sorry to hear about your issues😔 In my experience both Shift Registrers should work in the same way. They are identical, so to me it sounds that there is something wrong. If you make a patch on the upper SR and make the same connections on the lower one, they should behave in the same matter…

Thanks, yes. I think the same. Just wanted to make sure that I don’t overlook something.
Does anyone know if this is something easy to fix?

Do the brass jacks seem loose at all? I had to shore up the solder joints on a couple of mine after a lot of heavy use and travel. It’s pretty simple and low risk to check out at least.

No, they don’t seem loose at all. The jacks are working. They create a feedback loop – it’s just the steady clock pulse.
I think the lower sequencer is just faulty. I also noticed now that it’s DAC out LED only has two brightness levels (plus off) while the upper one has three.

If anyone feels like printing some of these and reporting back about the low audio out - feel free.
I figured I would just make the PCB Gerber available.
If people want the Panel I designed for it, feel free to message me

This is tested and working - just super quiet.

Go nuts - Just please do not sell them.

I will eventually be printing the Walking Ring PCB’s that I designed as well. I will report back about those at some point lol.

did my own PCB layout of the Phase Match FIlter a few weeks ago. just got 'em back from China, no issues, sounds great. as the original doc says, levels are a little uneven, with some interaction between the resonance and level controls, but nothing too extreme. perfect companion to glitchy/noizy circuits like ciat-lonbarde!

Hi Allie! Quick note to say thank you for your amazing Lorre Mill YouTube videos!

The document for the Phase Matching Filter on Lorre-Mill’s website doesn’t appear to name potentiometer values used/recommended. Anyone have any insights?

I used B10Ks son Will’s recommendation, works a treat

That is a fun patch!
It reminds me of the band Lightning Bolt mixed with the Prince song Delirious.

lol - i’ve never wanted an SQ-1 until I seen this banana mod, wtf.

I really need a DK at some point - they look super fun!

I’ve been thinking of getting rid of my SQ-1 because I have lots of euro sequencers but this mod makes me want to keep it and get someone to mod it for me!
