I saw from another youtube video of yours that you also have a Phenol. I’m wondering how you feel the DK pairs with the Phenol and if you ever cross patch the two?

Hi Richard
Yes I have a Phenol but actually haven’t connected it to either of the Lorre Mill instruments, but is definitely something I need to explore. Once I do I will post a video!
Thanks for the encouragement

when you do, beware of the negative voltages Phenol is sending out from it’s envelope generators in trough-zero mode. These can harm some Lorre Mill gear, if I understand correctly. Phenol signal flow can be also quite hot. I would be somewhat cautious on patching from Phenol to Lorre.

good point. I’d forgotten about the negative voltages! Thanks!!

Anyone here built the Lorre Mill Phase Matching Filter ?
I tried building the older one (Petit mini filter) without succes, but this one seems way easier I think i’ll try building it this summer (just wondering about the potentiometers values, any idea?).

Edit: I asked Will and he told me B10k should be good for the pots, i’m waiting for caps right now and will build one next week.

Not sure what trough-zero mode is- I have a Phenol and double knot v.1 and avoid patching the adder negative signal; otherwise, I’ve patched the two together often with no adverse affects. I find they make an excellent pairing…

I guess that was just my fancy way of saying that Phenol can create (and receive) both negative and positive control voltages to drive filters and VCOs trough the zero point. This seem to be an important design decision for Phenol but some instruments are not compatible with bipolar signals. My impression is that there have been problems using the Lorre Mill instruments with bipolar signals and thats why I put out that warning.

I just received my Keyed Mosstone today and noticed something strange about the sustain toggle: When pressing the button, the sustain mode doesn’t always switch on/off as expected. Sometimes it works, sometimes there’s nothing happening at all, now and then it seems to almost immediately switch back to the previously selected mode.

Is this the normal behaviour of the toggle, or is there maybe something wrong with my unit?

I was also a bit irritated by the bit-set buttons of the Double Knot that sometimes didn’t seem to work, until I realized that they have to be pressed in sync with the clock. So does the sustain button of the Mosstone maybe behave in a similar fashion? But then again, the jumping back and forth also seems a bit like lack of debouncing…

Has anyone taken a crack at the PMF (Phase Matching Filter) Paper Circuit?

I got bored this afternoon and whipped up some PCB’s.
Any info is appreciated.

Also - does anyone know the value of the power conditioning electrolytic in the lower left?

I’m interested in what this does and how you use it?

This is as much info as I have

Check out this build for some demo. Looks incredible

I tried the old version, but had trouble and gave up (I tried etching the board…). On the first version all of the electrolytics were 4,7uF, but none were associated with power. Isn’t 10uF the usual? If you ever run boards, I’d throw down on one or two!

Awesome!
Got in contact with him yesterday actually! - I kinda took an idea from his build and expanded on it -

He mentioned the Freq. Cutoff Pot was wired backwards, so I fixed that.
Added a 12v/9v power converter so it can be used with a wall adapter as well.
added Thonkiconns on top for addition I/O.
and made a nice panel
The jacks are meant to be cinch/johnson bananas. and will solder right in place - no wiring needed.

Does anyone have an email addy for Lorre-Mill?
I couldnt find one on the site, and I would like to show him this and get permission before I sell some boards off.

It’s hidden in the painting on the top of the about page :grinning:

@jlmitch5 That’s my build up there :slight_smile:
@TanSaturn I failed too at building the previous Petit Mini Filter (on paper), i’d like to try again though as I like the idea of having an internal modulation for the filter, plus Will give ideas of possible mods (rise/fall time of osc, ext cv input for cutoff, add a switch to mix osc out to filter input to ping it, etc.). It could make really a nice standalone box.

I got the approval from Will this morning to move forward with the PMF PCB’s

So I just got a Double Knot about a week ago. I have a tendency (for better or for worse) to try to wrangle tonal music out of equipment that isn’t necessarily suited for it, and I quickly learned that the DK is one of those things. I’d been fully embracing its experimental side when I managed to accidentally coax a nice dark groove out of it.

This is the Double Knot into a Strymon El Capistan & DBA Rooms.

Has anyone cross patched the DK with a Buchla Easel Command? Wondering if there’s anything to be aware of?

Yes I’ve used Easel and DK together without problems… as far as I understood both systems don’t operate with negative voltages so it should be fine?
