Been playing a few improv shows with just the mosstone and either a particle delay pedal or a custom max/msp delay patch.

I’d be interested to see the signal fed through a scope… anyone have this capability?
but I also had the experience of hearing noise bleed in the triangle osc (I since sold my Mosstone, but listening back to demos I made with it, it’s there)

Here’s a quick and rough scope from VCV Rack (I was dumb and just recorded in the left channel but :man_shrugging:). Clean to full wavefolder and back. Then clean to full noise, then wavefolder.

I’m looking to pick up a Mosstone, which would be my first piece of banana gear. Any recs on packs of small patch cables?

The Kilpatrick set is decently priced at $40, but, personally, I don’t really like the thin plastic rectangle bananas. Also, the Mosstone is pretty small, so the 18" ones would be some unnecessary spaghetti.

I think Pomonas are worth the extra ~$1.60 per cable, especially since you won’t need too many for just the Mosstone. Plus, you can pick out whatever colors/lengths you want. I bought some recently from Mouser after shopping around a bit.

are you going to put those on bandcamp?

they aren’t necessarily small, but they’re much more affordable and I haven’t had any issues w/ them: https://www.amazon.com/Sumnacon-Stackable-Silicone-Multimeter-Electrical/dp/B07179VF5J/

Almost certainly at least one

As a followup: I found that Control Mod have bananas. I already have an account there and I like their store, so I picked some up from them. They have both Pomona in various lengths / colors (but are currently out of stock) as well as Buchla cables (in stock!). They have 4" purples, so I nabbed five of them.

I can vouch for these cables also. Certainly not as stout as Pomona, but definitely in the al dente department if these were spaghetti.

The 4" cables are just about perfect. I had borrowed some 18" leads from work and it was just a mess. These are nice and tidy. They can’t quite make the longest diagonal connections, but I could always double them up. It’s a start, as far as bananas go.

While we’re on cables, how many of what size should I get for a Double Knot?

they don’t need to be long, but if you want to get particularly wonky rhythms, you’d be well served by a decent stash.

Did you end up finding a DK?

I’ve estimated 10 x 4" cables and 5 x ~7". That sound about right?

I did!

not 100% on the length, but 15 cables will certainly allow for some fun times  I tend to overpatch things, so I might go closer to 20, but if it’s your only piece of banana equipment that’s certainly a fine starting point. You can always buy more and that’ll give you a decent foundation for playing around.

has anyone here used the cv generated by the mosstone touch keyboard to modulate an external oscillator? I can’t figure out in the manual if this is something one can feasibly accomplish (bc the banana jacks on the back are only cv inputs, yes?)

Yeah CV/gate on the back is CV in. You can use a banana to jack converter if you want to send CV/gate/env etc to other non-banana gear. The stepped/«tuned» CV out from the keyboard is NOT scaled 1v/octave though. So you’ll need to attenuate it/pass it through a quantizer. The reason for this, as I understand is to make it more usefull as a modulation CV for filters etc. Also the upper and lower bar does not affect the CV out.

That being said, it is quite fun to use it to sequence other gear. I’ve used it a lot with my BugBrand system👍🏻
