Actually, yes. I have a Keychrone K2 and it works great with Teletype. I love this keyboard (am typing on it now). Also it is really nice that you can sync it with multiple devices. I typically use it wired but I have it synced with both dayjob and music computers.

I didn’t know a bluetooth dongle was even a thing…

I’ve been really happy with it. This is my 3rd mech keyboard - the first two were Das and Corsair. 75% layout is ace.

I’ve looked through here but not sure the answer;

Wife found an old wireless Apple keyboard in a box while moving. Would I be able to assign this to a Bluetooth dongle (first plugged in to my PC) then plug it in to the TT and have that work?

I don’t know if this is a place to post keyboards that DO NOT work but I wish I had known sooner:
The new keyboardio Atreus keyboard while beautiful and fun to use with my computer does not appear to work with my Teletype. I had been hoping it would work! You can flash alternate firmware on it. Might that be helpful in any way?

Edit: Just to add some info. This mechanical keyboard runs off an Arduino. Info on the firmware, drivers, codebase. I am a little over my head in terms of knowing where to look or how to approach this, but if someone has a suggestion with how to get started as I don’t fully understand how firmware and drivers work, I might be able to test/figure it out.

I just wanted to call attention to the Nemeio keyboard kickstarter as it looks like it would appeal to lines folks (I’m not associated with them, just a backer myself). The great premise is that each key is associated with an e-ink display, so using the dedicated software you can create custom layouts and swap between them (either manually or automatically through context switching). Software seems quite flexible and you can program in a secondary shift button to swap between keys. I can see it being really useful for creating custom layouts for DAWs, Renoise, Orca, etc. It’s HID protocol so should plug into anywhere that’s supported (Teletype and Norns, I would suspect?), but note that the custom layouts will ONLY work with Mac OS and Windows at the moment (they’re “looking into” Linux support after launch). Would’ve been brilliant to use the custom layouts with Teletype/Norns, but alas. It still seems really great for use with a computer.

I know folk have talked about the Vortex Core on this thread before, but I just wanted to post to say how hugely having one has improved my experience of using the teletype with my system. The weird thing is that it really shouldn’t have. For those of you who don’t know it, the core is a very tiny 47 key mechanical keyboard with a beautiful minimalist design and a chunky heavy metal base. The 47 key design means that it has extra “shift” keys to get to things like numbers or cursor keys. This really ought to make programming the teletype with it painful…

… but for some reason I absolutely love what it does to my brain when I’m using the modular. I have it sitting next to my grid and they look perfect together. The core is smaller than the grid, but that leaves room for the grid’s usb cable to run along behind the keyboard. It’s like they were made for each other. The nice haptic feeling you get when interacting with the grid is finally matched by the feeling when typing into teletype. And strangely, having to pause a bit to look at what modifier key to press somehow feels more mindful. (It probably helps that all teletype scripts are short!)

Anyway - I just thought I’d post this little bit of appreciation of the importance of having beautiful interfaces in music making!

Hiya,

I ended up buying the one I linked to in my post above - from an eBay shop based in Ireland.

It’s definitely cheap and cheerful, but does the job.

I also enjoy using the Core with my Teletype. However, I’ve programmed one of the custom layers to convert the right hand set of Win-Fn-Ctl-Shift to be Left-Down-Right-Up arrows and it has helped my flow immensely. What’s great is that you can always shift back to the original layer with a few keystrokes if you’d like.

Hello everyone! I’m very interested in this, too. Please share your experiences (good or bad) when trying to connect a bluetooth keyboard to the TT using some bluetooth usb dongle / adapter.

I didn’t have luck with Bluetooth, but a Logitech Unifying dongle works if you pair it using another computer before plugging it into the Teletype.

I’m using a Logitech K780, which can switch between different receiving devices with a keypress. So I’ve got it connected to my PC via Bluetooth, and my Teletype with the Logitech dongle that came with it.

I got myself the Vortex Core aswell and figured I’d give programming the layers a go. I manage to do the programming using this guide (https://sevenseacat.net/posts/2017/the-noobs-guide-to-programming-a-vortex-core/) but Teletype isn’t responsive to the programmed layers. Have you had any luck with this? It works when connectitng it to my Mac and sometimes Teletype picks up the values correct but something is not right.

And it works just fine. What I wanted to do above was to assign numerical keys to layer 1. Hmmmmm…

Edit 2: Tried on Norns aswell and the layer with programmed numbers work as expected.

Edit 3: Checked the output with @okyeron’s HID demo script and the programmed keys (using Fn1) are too “fast”, they switch automatically from state 1 to 0 and holding the programmed key does not result in state 2.

Interesting, thanks for the heads up on the timing issues. This isn’t something I’ve noticed. I haven’t tried to remap the numerical keys (I still use the two button combination for those since that would involve remapping 10 keys), just the directional keys which have worked great.

Hey @SwainVoorman, I’ve customized direction keys the same way, but when it comes to use for example “ : “ which needs “Shift”,
or “@“ which needs “FN1+Shift” there is a problem eheh… how do you work it around, do shift layer?

@lleicamun, you’ll want to be sure that you’re on one of the custom layers (indicated by an LED color that turns on). The main, base layer can’t be customized if I recall.

It works perfectly for me because there’s a shift/Win/ctrl on the left hand side of the keyboard that still functions normally. That’s why I liked this edit, because it reduces the amount of doubled keys on the keyboard.
