Cool, can do that no probs. Thanks man.

I have a Make Noise black & gold shared system and the high-pitched noise from the Ansible/Grid was present for me too. I wanted to order the Offworld-1 but it’s out of stock. So then I started to order the parts to build my own. But then I remembered a suggestion from @lyckland in another thread…use a cheater plug (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cheater_plug).

So I did and magic–noise gone! I’m taking this route until the Offworld-1s are back in stock.

Is this issue is effecting all grids or a specific production run? If I opt for a new run of the grid will I be able to avoid this issue?

(I sold my old grid which had this issue a while ago and now I’m looking to get another so I’m trying to make an informed decision.)

I’ve got a new grid and had noise. This particular noise issue isn’t a problem with the grid per se but interaction with other modules and ground loop. For example I had this issue when I used a make noise Rosie but I don’t have this when i use wmd output pro as my output module.

Ah ok gotcha, is there any reliable way to avoid the issue? Any PSUs that are confirmed working without noise?

There was no config I could manage with my rig before that would avoid the noise (aside from powering the 5v externally).

A thread-merge may be in order :

I put together a lunchbox system for travel a few weeks ago and I noticed a correlation between sound generated by the grid plugged into an Ansible and proximity to sound out. When I rearranged things with this in mind, I was able to minimize the sound (although not get rid of it completely).

Hey guys,

i’m still fairly new to modular and recently purchased an Ansible for my first rack to use with my grid and midi controller, however I have a constant high pitch tone coming out of the CV outs. This happens with either controllers plugged in and I have updated the firmware but i’m not sure if this is user error or if something is wrong.

Thanks

When I installed the earthsea alternative firmware I had the same problem, just tried reinstalling a few times and it worked in the end. Did it work fine before updating ?

honestly i updated it right out of the box, didn’t even try it before

Well just try reinstalling the firmware following the steps closely, maybe you’re hitting the wrong button when updating (I thought it was confusing as well because you don’t really know wich one is the one) I’m sure you will get it fixed.

Just tried 7 or 8 times re-installing but no luck :disappointed_relieved: im sure we’ll figure it out

i’m 99% sure the firmware itself is not the source, so reinstalling it won’t help. this is likely a USB problem or the issue with some grids generating a high pitched noise: 2015 grid noise fix

the two controllers I have tried with it have been a Greyscale 128 grid 2012 and a arturia mini lab

check this thread: Ansible & grid / power issues?

i don’t think im having the same issue that others are describing in that thread, the number of leds doesn’t seem to effect the high pitch tone

when in doubt, power the USB separately.

i’ve ordered more parts for offworld boards but use search for other solutions

ive ordered a usb splitter like the ones above however the sound is also still present with no usb device plugged in at all

whoa, that’s a new one to me.

can you tell us the details of your rack? what power supply? have you seen if it makes noise with no other modules attached?

@tehn its an arturia rack brute 3u, and no nothing outputs from it on its own, but with either my STO or Black Wavetable VCOs it does. I can try and film a short clip of it if that would make things easier
