I was also experiencing the dreaded high-pitched USB noise with my new Grid + Ansible, and I’m happy to report that using a USB splitter cable to power the grid separately solved the issue completely!

I know this has been suggested here in this thread but I just got one of these off amazon and it’s helped reduced noise by a lot. It’s cheap and easy to connect the power end of the cable to a usb battery pack.

[Usb split cable](StarTech.com 3 ft USB Y Cable for External Hard Drive - USB A to mini B - 3ft https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003HHK576/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_5VNoBbC7KGXR2)

you maybe be aware of this already, so just posting to advise / warn others:
these splitters often still have a power line running to the “data” usb A plug, with the red plug acting as a supplementary source. so if your euro system isn’t equipped to handle the extra grid power draw, or you want to use this with teletype, or if you just want the cleanest audio path, it’s recommended to open up the cable and cut the power lead (usually the red wire) to the usb A “data only” plug.

I actually was not aware. Thank you!

Which of these (plug A or B) gets plugged into USB power and which to Teletype?

in that linked item above, the red plug would go to your power source, and the black plug to the data connection.

hey everyone,

I am still trying to troubleshoot my ansible/grid high pitch noise issues, here is a short video showing whats going on. I am not sure about everyone else but my sound persists even when nothing is plugged in to the ansible.

Just a heads up for the cable that I had posted about not too long ago that I bought off amazon. When I cut the red wire on the data side it stopped working. Maybe it’s one of the other color wires rather than red?

If anyone can let me know what brand they bought and had success with when cutting the red wire on the data side please let me know which one you got.

not really sure how pitch works on meadowphysics, but based on the LED brightness, it appears that its outputting a high voltage (possibly 10v which would definitely make your oscillator nearly inaudible). try switching to kria and put a trigger on the corresponding track and the voltage should drop to 0v.

Sounds like you’ve tried a bunch of different things. Have you emailed monome for support at any point? info@monome.org is the email, I believe.

so is it pretty certain that a grid + ansible + tps80w is going to emit the noise? or are some people with those items not having the issue?

I have NONE of these items, but it seems to me that this is not a noise issue per se. you can see from the video that it appears with MIDI as well as the grid, and that it replaces the normal notes the MIDI plays. for this reason (and the CV LED brightness) I think somehow Ansible is producing very high voltages when it ought not to. So, my guess is that the answer to your first question is no, but it’s only a guess.

Not trying to confuse the issue with the above problems but I’ve had small digital noise come out of my grids itself with this setup. I solved it by buying a y splitter off amazon (power/data split) and splicing one side removing the power wire for data connections only. It was previously described on the forums in detail and can be had for ~$7.

Hey, did you ever get around to receiving/trying the m05 silencer? Solved the high pitch issue? In the same boat and wondering if this is the fix…

Thanks!

I just got Ansible + grid (older walnut/orange varibright), using it with my Intellijel 7u case that has the TPS80. I do not have any noise issues caused by Ansible, with or without the grid plugged in.

EDIT: just did a quick test. I listened to my noise floor with my system on then unplugged Ansible, no changes in the amount of noise I heard. I do have a some very, very quiet noise in my set up that’s most likely due to the wiring in the 100+ year old house I’m living in, and I suppose it’s possible that’s masking any noise I would have from Ansible + grid but it’s unlikely… ymmv, etc.

Can someone in UK/EU direct me to get the right usb splitter cable? I’ve ordered one but one cable is data/power and the other power only. Anyway it doesn’t work
Thanks!

Have you tried to clip the power from the data leg of the splitter? Make sure you clip the right one. you only want data from the data leg. The splitter will sometimes have both.

…the problem is that the other (power only) leg can’t provide any power.

any luck? same here…

I went through my amazon orders and found the exact one that i’m using:
