otherwise kria’s docs are mostly there. it’s a drag the ww/kria tutorial video isn’t 100% transferrable, but the ansible changes i believe improve the experience

It would be really cool if Kria had a burst option for the gate sequencer page.

My design idea would be that tapping the Gate Page button a second time would change the view to a burst view for the current track only. You could set the number of repeats for each gate from 1-7. Tapping the Gate Page button again would bring you back to the regular 4-track gate page.

I had a Varigate 8+ that I sold because I could never visualize my pattern, a problem that Kria doesn’t have. My favorite feature on the V8+ though was the easy RPT control. That was the fastest way to add drills and stutters to sequences, something that is especially useful with the Bitbox or ER-301.

One thing that would be awesome in a Kria update is per track play direction. Having forward/reverse/ping-pong/random modes for each track would open up some really amazing possibilities.

On the subject of random with Kria -

Something that would be really neat that I thought of while performing live with Kria is that it would be nice to have a feature that would randomize the parameters for whichever parameter page the user is on (Trigger, Note, Octave, Duration). This is a feature that the Stillson Hammer Mk2 has that, I imagine, would be really fun with Kria! For example, if you navigate to duration and there’s one button to push (or key combo) that would randomize all values on that page, you could instantly have a sequence that’s completely different, on the fly.

I have no understanding regarding how difficult this would be to implement, so feel free to shoot the idea down as feature bloat, etc! But as a performance feature, I felt myself really yearning for that in a live setting to very rapidly switch things up in a “controlled-random” manner.

this is actually a somewhat common feature for sequencers-- if we can figure out a key-gesture i’d consider it.

also at issue is randomization range-- it doesn’t seem right to always randomize full range-- perhaps check the minimum and maximum of the current data and use those as constraints?

Why not implementing those meta functions via teletype/i2c?

Imagine two new operators: one that reads or selects the parameter and one that sets (and could read for other use cases) the step values. It would be possible then to set the range of modulation/change as well as if it shall be random or follow special pattern within teletype writing a short and could be triggered on the fly with just hitting the according function key.

The guys at Winter-Modular with the Eloquencer allow for the dialing in of octave range that will be randomized and also if the user is going to randomize 1 or 3 layers.

@Leverkusen - don’t have teletype and am not trying to expand at the moment; if I did it would be a nice easy integration. Looking for something inside Kria.

randomize 1 or 3 layers

An Eloquencer “layer” is similar to a Kria “page”. So, this is a choice between randomizing a smaller or larger number of parameters with a single encoder press.

Pretty much everything in Eloquencer can be randomized with various means of controlling range. Not a bad model to look to for randomization interaction design.

I’m also fond of mutation or evolution as a concept. This is different from randomization in that it’s more like generating subtle variations on existing values through some kind of drunk walk algorithm. The new values always have a relationship to the old values. This can be very useful for keeping a repeating sequence interesting/humanized without also losing the reinforcement that comes from repetition. Lets you control the balance between repetition and variation. This approach is implemented very nicely in Coldcut’s Midivolve Max for Live device.

i don’t know if anyone is familiar with the Serge touch activated keyboard sequencer (TKB) but i would love to be able to hand select and play, using the 5th row an individual column of voltages - and to do this while the sequencer is running / and also without the sequencer running. And to do this in different playing modes - pendulum, random, reverse etc.

I know if you put a dummy plug in, it stops the clock but i can’t choose a column. I can get a random movement in the sequence by plugging in some filtered pink noise, but i would love to be able to choose a column at the same time.

I know its not what Kria was designed for but just by 3 cents.

@mlogger I really like that idea- never used the Serge sequencer but that would open up some cool possibilities.

In addition to all these great suggestions, how hard would it be to add microtonal scales like on white whale? I would love to be able to set up sequences in just or Pythagorean intonation without having to use a separate module (of which there are sorely few that can do this).

A feature that would be ENDLESSLY useful would be a mute function, to be able to mute each track separately so that they while muted they don’t send any triggers, just staying closed, and the CV outs don’t send any information.

I feel that Ansible would be practically perfect with this after the meta-pattern and pattern cue functions after the last update!

I would love to see these features ported to Kria. Really enjoyed using the random note feature from eloquencer but I ended up letting it go as I still preferred the interface/workflow of Kria.
