If your plugins/apps are 32 bit they will no longer work again past Mojave. Also are they locking out older software from newer phones and iPads? I don’t have the newest but maybe 2 years old and no problems connecting via wifi

If you have an extra drive laying around you could clone the drive and instal the update on that to test it. Much much easier then risking back.

Here;s an Update
I spent an hour with SuperCollider 3.11.2 which is the bleeding edge and it works on big sur and i also was successful with installing and running tidalcycles
it was not that hard and it will be any day now that support for Big Sur is working in stable Sc3

Sampling some audio via the UAD virtual channels into Reason seems to have somehow miraculously cleared up whatever issue I was having with Ableton. Very strange…

Has anyone successfully used a MOTU Firewire interface with an M1 mac? Thinking of upgrading my studio computer to whatever the next version of the M1 mac mini is, but my main studio interface is an OG MOTU Traveller (mk1), which I presently use via firewire. I know you can do that silly chain of dongles thing to get to thunderbolt, but I have no clue what that means in terms of “drivers”.

I’d be curious as well. I have a pair of ultralite’s that I use for sound installations as well as in the studio. I run the dongle chain and they work fine but I’m thinking I need to look for a better long term solution for both computer and interface

I also asked the question on the MOTUnation forum and got a promising response.

Not 100% sure if this is helpful in regards to the M1 Macs but I’m using a Traveler MK1 on an iMac 2014 via FW-TB2 adapter on Big Sur 11.2 and it works totally fine. I just downloaded the latest Motu audio drivers (despite it not saying anything about traveler mk1 compatibility) and having no issues here.

Unfortunately, I was unable to get my MOTU 828 mkII to be recognized by my new M1 MacBook Pro in any way, using the aforementioned dongle chain. Drivers install, but nothing happens beyond that. I believe the “unofficial” support that legacy MOTU firewire devices have enjoyed stops with the M1 machines, though who knows what will happen when they do update drivers for the newer devices. I recently picked up an ultralite AVB in the hopes that it would work as a class compliant USB device - it is recognized, but so far I’m only getting glitchy, unusable low bit rate audio.

On the other hand, my old apogee duet has worked fine as a class compliant USB device. The apogee maestro software doesn’t recognize it, so only adjustments available on the device itself can be done (ie, can’t enable phantom power or change from preamp to line inputs). let me know if I can answer anything else.

RMEs FireWire devices are working with M1s and a dongle parade. You can get a Fireface 400 or 800 for pretty cheap these days, still a killer interface. I had a Fireface 800 and sold it when RME stated on their forums that they wouldn’t be supporting them on the M1s. Lo and behold a few weeks later they said they were working and had drivers for them. Picked up a UCX in the meantime at a much higher price tag. Great driver support always from RME which I’m sure is a surprise to no one.
