to clarify, i added a few lines to the cmake for the crone standalone so it builds on OSX (but it requires Jack to be installed, which is a bit of a pain.) the crone standalone is for the 2.0 release and isn’t on the master branch of norns right now.

the supercollider stuff that is on the master branch of norns already works fine on macOS or in whatever supercollider environment. (the one caveat is that we don’t typically test the ugen build scripts on macos.)

Trying to figure out what needs to be updated for the ES-Passerby script to work again. It actually does load but loads with (error: init). I am able to go into the parameters and change settings but no longer have the UI. Where do I start to get this working again? Would this have something to do with passerby being updated to v1.1? How difficult would this be to update for someone with little experience?

are you on the master branch of norns? it shouldn’t have broken. or are you trying 2.0 (dev)?

Not 2.0 dev no thats way above my head. I was revisiting the earthsea + passerby script that @jflee adapted and am just running into problems. Ive been trying to compare lines of code to see what I need to change to maybe get it working again. Looking at dust it seems that the difference was the change of passerby from v1.0 to v1.1 but im just not sure

it shouldn’t be too hard to update the script to make it work again. unfortunately i haven’t been keeping up with norns development lately but i’m hoping to go over the scripts in the near future…

Any word on whether the upgraded Pi CM3+ works correctly with norns? Is it something that I could upgrade myself?

i haven’t had a minute to test yet, but i have it here. i think @ngwese also has one. it’s almost certainly going to work fine, but you have to flash the image which is a bit tricky: https://github.com/monome/norns-image/blob/master/readme-usbdisk.md

dm me and i’ll send you an image link if you decide to try it. replacing the CM3 itself is super easy, just like a RAM stick.

Unfortunately no news from me on the CM3+ front. I have a 32GB model sitting on my desk waiting to go. If I’m lucky I’ll be able to do some hacking this coming Monday and this is close to the top of my list…

Where did you order your CM3+s from? The distributor linked by the official RPi site (https://www.pishop.us/product/raspberry-pi-compute-module-3-32gb/?src=raspberrypi) currently only has them on pre-order with no date listed.

you can get them direct from newark (official pi distro)

there’s some modification needed on the image before this is going to work. thanks @ngwese for testing it out.

At the moment this looks a little tricky for me. Also Windows 10. Don’t have access to a Mac. Is it worth me considering running a Linux under Windows 10? For example - https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/linux-in-windows-10/ - and if so, what would be the most appropriate Linux to set up, given I have a norns.

debian/ubuntu would be fine and similar to norns.

Just so people don’t get the wrong impression regarding CPU performance - that 10x more powerful claim is comparing the very first compute module (which was single core and had a much slower clock IIRC) to the CM3+. The CPU difference between the CM3 currently used in norns and the CM3+ is likely not that significant.

The real advantage of the CM3+ in my opinion is the larger eMMC options.

Interesting to see the benefits this low cost upgrade could provide. Obviously, more space for stored samples. But what interests me is the potential to expand scripts/apps and “the coven”.

As much as I could imagine cracking open my norns and installing a new card, I’m one of Those People who would be more likely to mail it back to the manufacturer for installation and re-flashing of the OS for An Appropriate Fee, if such a service were offered.
