Where did you order your CM3+s from? The distributor linked by the official RPi site (https://www.pishop.us/product/raspberry-pi-compute-module-3-32gb/?src=raspberrypi) currently only has them on pre-order with no date listed.

you can get them direct from newark (official pi distro)

At the moment this looks a little tricky for me. Also Windows 10. Don’t have access to a Mac. Is it worth me considering running a Linux under Windows 10? For example - https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/linux-in-windows-10/ - and if so, what would be the most appropriate Linux to set up, given I have a norns.

debian/ubuntu would be fine and similar to norns.

but i think you might be able to do it with cygwin: https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/hardware/computemodule/cm-emmc-flashing.md

Just so people don’t get the wrong impression regarding CPU performance - that 10x more powerful claim is comparing the very first compute module (which was single core and had a much slower clock IIRC) to the CM3+. The CPU difference between the CM3 currently used in norns and the CM3+ is likely not that significant.

The real advantage of the CM3+ in my opinion is the larger eMMC options.

Interesting to see the benefits this low cost upgrade could provide. Obviously, more space for stored samples. But what interests me is the potential to expand scripts/apps and “the coven”.

As much as I could imagine cracking open my norns and installing a new card, I’m one of Those People who would be more likely to mail it back to the manufacturer for installation and re-flashing of the OS for An Appropriate Fee, if such a service were offered.

I just bought mine last week… so I’m hoping these new CPU developments don’t mean my (not arrived yet) Norns will require an upgrade within a few months of owning it just to keep it up to date :anguished:

the software update process is pretty painless luckily.

the CM3 upgrade is never going to be a requirement— i’m pretty sure it’ll just offer more disk storage for those who want it.

I’ve not done much with my norns yet, but ordered a CM3+ since I have a care package coming from the US since it’s quite cheap.

a safe space?

A software synth for the norns platform. Two unique oscillators: one high, one low, One self-oscillating feedback loop with built-in ladder filter, smearing the pitch of the oscillators. Finally, audio in.

Soon on norns (if developers accept the pull request :wink: ).
update (20.2.2019): merged into dust.

(thanks to @artfwo to introduce me to norns and borrowing one to write the synth)
