That’s my biggest question too. This is kind of what I imagine in terms of how it’d fit into my setup:

Questions:

– (A) is Norns a mini web server which you connect to with a browser (perhaps over USB, or wireless LAN) and edit live? Or is there a web-based IDE on a server somewhere else, which generates files you (B) transfer via USB cable or © Bluetooth or (D) save on a USB flash drive?

– I see five 1/4" jacks. Mono, presumably? DC coupled? Is there a specific number of ins vs. outs, or are they assignable to either role? For instance, could I set it up as a gamepad-controlled crossfader with 4 audio ins and one out?

– Is there integration with Teletype via USB, giving it access to i2c and gate/CV I/O? Or should I start looking for another MIDI->CV interface for this sort of thing?

Same situation here, I was waiting for the Orthogonal pre-orders to reopen… Now, I discover this new thing, some of us were waiting for a new alt production of Aleph PCB’s (another topic), Norns is : a game changer. I guess the price of this new device will be decisive though… On another hand, I don’t even know how much an Er-301 costs with customs taxes and shipping to France… + One thing I’d like to know: is it compatible with my 256 walnut Monome… ?

Does this mean that norns might be slightly less expensive than aleph? (Not that I’m unwilling to pay the price for top-notch design, I’m just hoping I can afford this beautiful sound-brain when it becomes available.)

This looks like the perfect thing to help bring my super dry sounding archtop guitar into the modular world. Can’t wait to see and hear more!

I wonder if it will take hot modular inputs, or if I need to scale them down on the modular (via an ALM SBG or similar)…

norns ’s on? no, norns snors……so, on! on ’n non = non; on or non = on; non nor non = on. ons ’n nons = sonr! norns…soon rs

I use Morphagene for this, it’s worked well.

thank you everyone for the positivity! i know there are a lot of questions and they’ll all be answered by may 3— unfolding gently rather than having a sudden splap after years of development :sunny:

Splap. I must incorporate this into a work conversation next week…

If I managed to get “earballs” into regular vocabulary at my office job, then you can work in splap.

Will all be reveled at Superbooth 2018?

yo! i use earballs all the damn time!!
i.e. “lemme play this for your earballs” or “got a mix for your earballs, listen up”

its a very delicate technical term

Norns is…

Norns is two mirrors, aligned just so.

Now an infinite series of reflections.

Now a glimpse at something over there

Norns is the smell after it rained.
It’s the oil barrel in my dream last night.
It’s Rothko’s No. 10,
and Rothko’s No. 10 is my dog.
Norns is my dog.
Good boy.

Norns is always a new thing.

norns is me
norns is you
norns is us

i really dont want to be greedy, because already with the currently known feature set, norns is a must buy. mlr confirmed, many more apps to come, what’s not to like?
but the absolute killer app for me would be to have some version of the party van running on this thing.
paging @rodrigo

You and me both!

Though I see myself probably making several smaller setups for it (a mini Cut Glove, C-C-Combine etc…). At the moment I’m working on taming some of the CPU usage of TPV2 so it runs more smoothly on my maxed out laptop, so some of the heavy lifting will probably be relegated to a computer computer, but I’ll see once I get my hands on one.

//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

On a separate note, however, does anyone know of a (rechargeable) battery powered, decent quality phantom preamp?

From the looks of it this is just 1/4" in, so I’d want to have something that’s compact/portable but will allow me to plug a mic into it for live sampling and such.

Obviously could have a mixer, or a full on pre-amp, but that defeats the elegance of having such a compact setup (norns).

What is that, over there?

Spins around to face a massive floating Earball, tendrils splapping along the floor.

It is NORN, woken from her terrible slumber!

We are doomed.
