+1 for soundplane that is an exciting prospect

I know nothing of supercollider of lua but I’m excited to learn

I like this a lot. I may even like like it.

so it’s a pi 3 running RT linux with the support of the cs4270… I just skimmed the datasheet so i barely know anything, but it looks like that codec can handle sample rates of up to like 120kHz in “quad speed” mode? I don’t know anything about supercollider, but since Norns is essentially dedicating all of it’s powers and cunning to being “one thing at a time”—what’s the minimum operable sample vector size? I mean, it’d be awesome if it was operating on a per-sample basis… cause that’s like portable, battery-powered Kyma right there.

as far as music electronics running a pi—this is kinda blowing Terminal Tedium out of the water… not that it’s a contest :stuck_out_tongue:

Plus 1 to all the questions regarding availability and quantities. It seems important to know what the developers are envisioning because that will direclty impact the shared community of scripts and support.

It sounds like they want a large community. I hope so because I love everything I’m reading but get a little nervous about everyone diving on a small run and feeling left out and stuck waiting all summer for word of more to come.

@tehn - that was a terrific performance in your intro video.

I’m kind of expecting to miss out on the first batch - and if I do, that’s ok. These guys have cooked up something that appeals to people who frequent this forum and those who don’t, those who will write and share cool scripts, and those who will stick to only downloading them (lol). This kind of device has a lot of crossover appeal and I think that’ll create an awesome ecosystem around it.

That initial teaser has been seen by 15k people so far. I’m sure the Monome folks are realizing the reception is overwhelmingly positive and have some kind of plan for accommodating the masses - eventually.

That being said - give me one pls.

The Eurorack modules are sort of USB OTG ports. In theory they can work as either host or device, and even change at runtime. But it’s all in theory, someone needs to find the time to sit down with a module and fiddle to prove it’s correct.

Here is the bit of the config:

this kind of makes it sound like serialosc learned a few new tricks (and is really, really interesting from a design ecosystem perspective)…

it also makes me wonder; will the norns software suite be runnable on other computer devices?

i could imagine it being super helpful to be able to run the whole software system (somewhat virtualized, obviously) on a laptop so that you could develop a patch/program/engine from a coffee shop without unplugging the hardware from your pedalboard

lots of info buried somewhere in this thread

It runs great on Linux without any tricks and having the SuperCollider IDE running your engine is really helpful. The only downside is that the PC doesn’t have the encoders, buttons and the display to debug the script UI.

indeed, you definitely wouldn’t be able to mimic the performative experience without non-laptop hardware, but it shouldn’t be too far-fetched an idea to pull up window emulating the display, and use keystrokes to emulate button presses. the encoders are the tricky part, but could also be emulated in a few ways (mouse movement, keystroke-mouse-combo, arc4, etc)

yeah, worst-case you can always bring norns to a coffee shop and hack it right there

Feeder/eaters ? (20 characters)

the thing about maiden/matron (whose usage I personally like here) is that it relates to norns.

These three Norns are described as powerful maiden giantesses (Jotuns) whose arrival from Jötunheimr ended the golden age of the gods.

and

The Germanic Matres and Matrones, female deities venerated in North-West Europe from the 1st to the 5th century AD depicted on votive objects and altars almost entirely in groups of three from the first to the fifth century AD have been proposed as connected with the later Germanic dísir, valkyries, and norns,[43] potentially stemming from them.

you all realize the “tehn replying” thing is a permanent fixture on this thread only there to further entice speculation right?
