It’s got tons of USB ports on the back, so my guess is that it would be very possible, even if it doesn’t happen right at launch. But yeah, agreed. Especially given the relatively sparse controls on the box itself, Arc could play a more persistent role in interaction, even in apps primarily built for grids.

This looks amazing. Just having MLR as as standalone is exciting, but the prospect of Polygome would remove the main thing that requires I use my grid w/ a computer right now.

DC coupled outputs?

perhaps, but that strikes me as not very elegant… we can be fairly certain at this point there are only 5 1/4" jacks, 4 USB host ports and 1 USB device port. also, the mention of radio OSC and the fact that a bluetooth(?) adapter was shown in one of the pictures seems to imply that’s how it communicates (since it can also do MIDI but there is neither DIN nor minijack MIDI). so maybe there is something that converts OSC to CV - an additional module? something that can be plugged into a USB port on ansible or teletype?

the truth is likely both more simple and more complex as is usually the case…

since it supports grid adding arc support would be trivial. and the cool thing about norns is that you could probably have both grid and arc connected at the same time. and faderbank!

Last year I helped monome with writing a Linux ASoC driver for the RasPi CM3 compute module and some system packaging scripts for installing a realtime kernel, a headless JACK server, and SuperCollider. There was stereo in/out, 4GB of flash, emails about Lua… The project was “not a secret”, details were vague–but this looks maybe related.

Supercollider tips, Q/A

i got a PM from a lines subscriber recently asking for some basic supercollider tips. thought i would answer some of the questions in a public thread because i know there are other supercollider beginners on the forum, as well as other experienced users, so yeah. more efficient. i don’t really have time to show examples for everything but will get things started with a couple. here’s what i was asked about: a piano roll a step sequencer detecting long key-presses using pbind switching modes…

should we start a thread on lua? been meaning to look into it for er-301, it’s great that knowledge will also apply to norns.

1/4" vs. 1/8" connections

for audio input/output, my impression is that 1/4" jacks are perceived as “professional” while 1/8" stereo is for sub-pro or toys or phones or laptops etc. is this changing? granted, with 1/4" you can have a balanced connection, but even most 1/4" gear is unbalanced. 1/8" being stereo is sometimes great (when you’re working with stereo) and other times annoying (if you want to be working in dual mono, whereupon you have to use splitters etc). mechanical robustness clearly wins with 1/4". but…

earlier i’d already hinted that the “new thing” involves linux. it’s a pretty ambitious project with many aspects— and it’ll all be open source and no doubt evolve beyond my initial concept, the same way everything else we’ve made has (!) it’s close. i am looking to delegate some linux-centric tasks. i have near-final totally-working prototype units. e-mail info@monome.org if you have deep linux knowledge, enjoy this sort of thing, and have some hours to share. edit! got a flood of interest…
