wow it seems amazing!!

“The Norns in Norse mythology are female beings who rule the destiny of gods and men. They roughly correspond to other controllers of humans’ destiny, such as the Fates, elsewhere in European mythology.”

The Fates themselves are three sisters…

And i2c makes three sisters out of Monome, Mannequins, and Orthogonal Devices.

is the 3rd of may the launch date?

Even though I’m familiar with the Norns – my spouse is big into Norse mythology and I like mythology in general – I still keep reading this thread as “approaching noms.” Maybe I need a snack with my decaf

I apologize in advance for the rant below. Lovely demo, and very interested in finding out more about Norns. Monome stuff is always so unique and useful.

If you don’t want to know my opinion on lithium batteries, please stop now. Nothing to see here.

Still here? Good, let’s talk.

I rather hope it’s NOT an internal lithium battery. Have had no end of problems with them because they’re built in. Although I’ve changed iPhone batteries and MacBook batteries, it’s not something I would wish on anyone, and if you plan on keeping the thing for many years to come, the battery WILL fail over time, and possibly swell to a point where it damages the unit, or can be dangerous.

I’ve also experienced a lot of trouble with TSA. You’re not supposed to check in “spare lithium technology batteries”, but I’ve also had them open and DESTROY items with integrated batteries, simply in the name of looking at the battery to make sure it’s “safe”. If it doesn’t immediately say Sony or Apple on the case, they can’t be bothered to identify it, and open it to disconnect the battery “because they can”. Even if that means destruction of said device.

The final argument for lithium is to be green, and not fill up th landfills with batteries. I agree 100%, but the argument holds no water because there are rechargeable AA / AAA format batteries, and they’ll last plenty long with the plethora of low power SoCs available these days.

I know I sound like the old man I am, but this reliance on lithium built-ins is NOT a good thing. Besides, I can change a set of AAs pretty fast and then am instantly back to full charge instead of waiting for an hour next to the only outlet in the airport.

in this case the battery is easy to remove or replace.

This is amazing!
How many times i’ve day dreamed about running MLR without a computer (before the modular synth world suck me in). Just plug in and play. This will be so much fun!

offhand irrelevancy, what is the actual name of the percussion instrument being played? is this just a “xylophone?”

Yeah, it seems like such an obvious thing from a user standpoint, and such a headache from a designer angle, but what I’m seeing / hearing feels WONDERFUL.
