While this is true for working inside the box, remember that we can’t connect more than one device to a module. TT remote certainly could do the trick (yummy, arc module + TT)

That being said, didn’t brian say “new mechanics”? Room for speculation there…

Heh, was more being ridiculous, suggesting literally attaching spinning grids to the encoder tops. I was actually gonna photoshop a ‘grid as knob’ thing, but couldn’t find a top view of a 128 quick enough.

Well, he did say new mechanics and non-push so these speculations don’t seem to get us somewhere. But I am sure too that the forthcoming arc related module won’t miss the push function either. Turning a wheel and pressing on it to fix, confirm or change mode seems so natural for a controller on one hand - getting over this and work with just turning wheels may be better though…

I imagine something like wheel controllable LFOs or sequences that you can give a shove or stop for moment as you would with a turntable.

i understand the desire for a pushbutton-- a sort of more-is-more feeling. i’ve discussed this decision extensively in the past-- the tradeoff for me is a better knob all around, which is the fundamental component of the experience.

there will be general-purpose button/keys on the euro module for modality switching.

there will be new apps for the arc that don’t use the pushbutton. they will not be lacking.

Really excited to see the arc euro ecosystem fleshed out. The eurorack system really set the bar in regards to usability. Having a plug and play system that allows instant tactile gratification transformed the grid from a beautiful concept to a functioning tool for me.

I have an Arc4 from the last batch - the one that removed the push-action from the design. At first I was sad not to have the behavior, but frankly loved the smooth movement so much that I immediately forgot about the touch action. In fact, I’m glad now not to have my values altered by inadvertent directional taps.

My rack has tons of things to press, but nothing like the Arc. I was so excited about how the ORCA firmware for the White Whale brought it to life that I went and purchased a second WW to just run that firmware. What I would love is a way to have both an Arc and Grid going at the same time with a module … but one can always just patch it in.

Kudos to @tehn for brining it back into production!!

my greatest wish…aleph seemed like the solution, then orca came close but I understand it’s a tough coding nut to crack

as I type this it’s pretty hilarious that we are on this quest when pc’s manage multiple monomes without major issue

why not save the panel space/hp and just give trigger inputs? then we can access with walk or other dedicated FS interface modules

I was thinking the same thing about using arc into walk, it would be an interesting fit!
On the flip side, having giant knob controllers (however cool and well made) isn’t as appealing as it was in the past – something tells me that the module side of this is going to put a twist on arc that makes it different and more relevant than a simple controller!

I should clarify by saying: the possibilities for control of electronic music by gestures with knobs (AND associated led feedback) have barely been touched even by previous arc efforts

this is what excites me

simple lo-res pots are engrained in the history of electronic music and mixing but the whole approach has to be rethought when dealing with hi quality, decoupled, lit arrays like monome creates

the expanded userbase euro has attracted to these devices should breath new life into the creative platform

Yes exactly. The grid is ‘just’ buttons, but the synergies with the software/modules and eurorack format in general definitely create something more than the sum of the parts.

has both! keys and triggers ins. with plug detection. it might come off as underwhelming on announcement, but this is the missing link.
