Yes exactly. The grid is ‘just’ buttons, but the synergies with the software/modules and eurorack format in general definitely create something more than the sum of the parts.

has both! keys and triggers ins. with plug detection. it might come off as underwhelming on announcement, but this is the missing link.

this is welcome news, as my brand new first-time modular rack doesn’t have any trigger sources; only inputs.

one thing i wished for when coding for arc was to have 2 led rings around each encoder…

that’s pretty intriguing, i’ve certainly considered it, or at least bi-color on the same ring. would be some pretty intense circuit layout. single-knob arc with dual rings?

this was mostly due to exploring a way to have one encoder control 2 different things when turning it clockwise and counterclockwise. i found it to be not very intuitive, but with 2 rings it could be more so. and i’m sure there could be more interesting applications as well.

but yeah, i imagine it would make for a very dense circuit layout… a single knob arc with dual rings sounds wonderful though! or perhaps a dual ring arc2?

I think the multicolor led like the ones ssf uses would allow for a plethora of information without overcomplicating the layout too much.

Down with rainbow pastels!

any chance you’re aiming for a size similar to the grid modules (6hp)?

I assume the modules are nearly finished when mid of june is planned for release - i just wondered if a trigger/gate out firing when the wheels get moved wouldn’t be a nice feature instead of the push function. But anyway, with patience we’ll see how it will fill the link…

I’m red-green colour-blind, like 10% of the male population. So multicolor LEDs producing colours like green, red, orange, yellow drive me effing nuts, pardon my French, as I can’t distinguish their states.

You have no idea how thankful I am that the Grid uses brightness instead of colors.

I can’t really see Monome adapting multicolored LEDs aesthetically. But layering the visual cues would help with relaying information to the broadest audience. With a ring of LEDs, also changing the spacing allows easier interpretation of state changes. (Similar to the 4ms smr) Modulating brightness while using spacing cues would allow for added nuance in conveying information to the user.

6hp. yes, the modules are “almost done” for sure. the firmware of course has tons of possibilities for change, however. i’m adding/changing ideas as it goes. the module’s i/o has many possibilities.

@michael_matos we’re not going multi, and likely won’t ever. white for all. and white+orange on modules.

Whites alright by me. But I’m a creature of excess. I want to experience everything! I’m curious if this module will also tap into the ll bus? If so, will the means to connect more than just the original trilogy be forthcoming?

very cool!
so, is the plan to have it “extend” the functionality of Teletype, or have it be a stand-alone arc/module set? or both?

i am so hoping the answer is “both”…

@tehn - given that the push-button arc2 can mimic an arc 4 in so far as it could output the gestures from 4 rings, albeit not simultaneously, am I correct to deduce that the advanced functionality makes use of the tell-back from the 4 rings rather than the control by the 4 knobs?

…no doubt i’ll be seduced by the new arc4 in any case…

I have an arc2 non-pushbutton. It’s one of the most usable pieces of gear I own. Due to the high resolution of the encoders they are as close to analog as can be. The feel is just right, perfect.

I kind of mourned when the non-pushbutton arcs were presented not having pushbutton like on the first editions. But now I have my arc2 I think it’s the completely right decision for not having a pushbutton feature - regardless whether it’s due to issues with the knob or not. Without the pushbutton the arc becomes more of an instrument.

I should not hype this more. It’s just fantastic, is all.

Totally agree on that! Just had a revival with mine yesterday and was blown away again by how smooth it feels.

As a side note, it would be awesome to implement some hotkey on the module to toggle enc1+2 and 3+4 for arc2 users, hoping the existing implementation allows this somehow. Although, we don’t even know yet what it does and how that would be beneficial

That would be great. I’m all for making the Arc 2 as functional as possible with the new module.
