WOW WOW WOW!!!
THANK YOU!

loading up in a few and will give it a test drive!
i’ll sync it with several different controllers and run it through it’s paces!!

very nice update! can’t wait to try the MIDI stuff and syncing.

  • my JF still doesn’t reset to mode 0 on script cleanup even with the order change in the cleanup() function… ? but with the new mode selection in the parameter menu it’s not such a big deal, and it’s always possible to change the mode directly via maiden by typing crow.ii.jf.mode(0).
  • when loading a save, domes don’t seem to be initialized from their saved state properly and don’t send anything without changing one of the attributes. is it just me? here’s a quick test file:

dometest.arcology (18.4 KB) dometest.pset (1.2 KB)

thanks for these files, i’ll look into this!!

and i’ll keep working on the jf cleanup, too. dunno why that isn’t working. sorry about that.

v1.1.5

  • FIX Domes properly load from save files.

ok!

test noiz setup was with three staggered HIVES on the right of the GRID and three staggered CRYPTs on the right.
running a NAVA Extra 9 simultaneously for a beat reference.

tested with a Deluge, a Cirklon and then a Polyend Tracker as master to start.

  • start and stop - CHECK!
  • tested with very slow and REALLY fast tempos - 40bpm to 800bpm - CHECK!
  • scrolled through the BPM while playing from 40 to 800 - CHECK!
  • sync from Tracker thru Cirklon - CHECK!
  • ripping the MIDI cable out of the Deluge while sending clock - arcologies will just continue running
  • changing the tempo on the Deluge and plugging back in MIDI - arcologies will skip to the new tempo

so the ONLY thing that is interesting is that it will on occasion skip to catch up to the clock when starting from a stopped status or if i ripped the MIDI cable out and plugged it back in.

hell yessss! sounds like a successful test to me!! thank you for putting it through it’s paces with such a thorough test suite. mad props to @artfwo and @tehn and everyone else who contributed to the clock. i just basically dropped it in and it did all this magic on it’s own.

oh!
i also wanted to say i love the BPM being striked through when on EXT sync!

one other weird thing…but it’s audio related…
it seems that the right side of the samples is louder than the left.
they are MONO but it’s just louder on the right channel output of norns.
it displays as such on the main norns output screen.
doesn’t matter which sample set i use.
(did i maybe change some setting accidentally somewhere?)

little ui things like that are one of my favorite things to make. thanks for noticing

i’ll look i to the mono issue.

think i ran into a small bug.
updated onto a second norns.

did some basic setup similar to the first norns.

it was receiving sync but nothing would animate and play.

set it to internal sync and still nothing.

did a reset from SLEEP and it’s happy now.

I’m loving the midi channel option! It’s helping me get the most out of this volca sample. Thanks for getting it implemented so quickly.

@TanSaturn you’re welcome! woah this sounds awesome!!

@SPIKE yeah there are some small errant issues like that i can’t pinpoint. if i can’t reproduce it i can’t fix it. little naps do wonders.

so i find myself setting up gauntlets in arcologies.
:stuck_out_tongue:
i call them that because i see the Hives firing at things.
like i a low-rez video game.
(i think it’s my obsession with the Atari 2600 that makes me think of this)

what i’ll do is set up Hives on opposite ends and alternate lanes of the grid playing field.

then place Crypt and Topiary structures in the line of fire.

what makes this REALLY interesting to me is the addition of the Mirage structures.
i will release a horde of them out onto the playing field gauntlet with “???” as their direction to create interference all over the place!

here’s last night’s session running arcologies on two norns and @infinitedigits OOOOOO running it’s Dangerous Delay setup on a pair of Aux sends.
also in the glacially moving mix of noiz is the NAVA 9, Polyend Tracker, DCM8 and a slew of ERD modules.

v1.1.6

  • NEW Set NOTE COUNT for structures with multiple notes.
  • NEW Global transpose for MIDI and SuperCollider structures.
  • CHANGE Load and save routines have been rationalized. I was was maintaining separate logic for minor patch versions which was unsustainable. v1.0.3 and prior arcologies should be loaded with a ~95% accuracy. The great metabolism refactor of v1.0.4 still means you have to retune your metabolisms.
  • DEV Move structures out of config.lua and into their own file.
  • DEV Cleanup fn.cleanup().
  • DEV Add channel to m:all_off().
  • DEV Organize functions.lua.
  • DEV Structures without glyphs will render the default cell glyph instead.

@spike this is a sweet video. i love your aesthetic. and the idea of a mirage interference system like you described is really cool

we’ve got a thread going for the babycastles talk i’m giving this weekend over here

:eyes: Workshop/Talk on Arcologies this Sunday 9/20 3pm EDT :eyes:

this is very much about the creative process and will skim over some arcologies stuff as a case study. come hang out if you want to learn strategies and tactics for how i navigate getting something from a vision to actually existing.

Wonderful!!! Thank you!

I was wondering if it would be possible to add a direction parameter to that too? (i.e. forward, backward, pendulum, random)

v1.1.7

  • NEW Add kudzu structure. You’ll climb the wrist-thick kudzu vines that wrap the Sears Tower. And when you look down, you’ll see tiny figures pounding corn, laying stripes of venison on the empty car pool lane of some abandoned superhighways.
  • NEW Add kudzu management features in parameters menu. KUDZU METABOLISM, KUDZU RESILIENCE and KUDZU CRUMBLE set the defaults for newly created kudzu (children kudzu inherit metabolism and resilience from their parents.) KUDZU AGGRESSION sets how many growths happen each beat. KUDZU CROPDUST POTENCY sets how much the kudzu crumble with each > CROPDUST.
  • CHANGE Re-organize parameter menu.

small feature request.

when a structure is disabled in the EDIT parameters area…could it remove or hide it on the structures page that i don’t or can’t use?

oh…i see…those settings are for the random seeding feature.
(i’m clarifying all this for myself as i look at it more)
:stuck_out_tongue:
well…anyhow…could something like that be done?

Any thoughts of making a structure that can read samples from the common folder or any other folders where samples might be?

@SPIKE yes. i’ve been inching towards this. it requires all the menus to be dynamic. for example, i just changed the analysis page to only show structures that actually exist in your arcology. previously it showed allllll of them, even if they were 0. i think once i make the structure select menu dynamic i’ll be able to implement this. and yes, it’ll work just as you request via the EDIT params area.

@TheeDatabomb yeah, that’s a great idea. are there any other scripts that do this i could pull inspiration from?

ORCA has a mechanism where you load samples into slots or a whole folder that will fill all the available slots. It might be worth checking out.

I was thinking of what Timber uses. It also allows long samples to be streamed from the SD card. That would be fun for a live and/or DJ Set.
