Yes I completely misunderstood sorry

Apply fix for seq 1 to seq 2 also

thank you as always :pray::pray::pray::metal:

I flagged this issue in Ash with the previous firmware, but I think someone said that SAVE and recall was working fine for them. Never did for me.

The new firmware did not address that. It is simply impossible to save the preset, then set that preset to be the startup preset, and have the Norns power up with those settings. It’s a real bummer.
A pet peeve of mine: instruments/modules that do not retain their state through a power cycle. Not going to get into a whole rant here, but in my opinion, that really is one of the fundamental concerns from usability/user experience perspective…

I can confirm that after getting the latest Git Pull for awake, it seems to be saving the sequences too :metal::metal::metal::metal::metal:

Seriously?
Which version?
It loads the samples and starts up how you left it?

Pattern saving was added to Awake by @zebra about a week ago. It allows for pattern save and recall. It’s specific to that script, and not a global save state change if that’s what you were asking about??

This isn’t quite right. There are several scripts that load the saved default paramset when starting up. Foulplay and mangl do for sure, including loaded samples, even on power up. It’s usually super easy to add this functionality to other scripts, just add

params:read()
params:bang()

to the init function.
nb: you’ll still have to manually save your default paramset

Sorry I was not specific enough: my experience was with Angl app in the Ash collection

If you add

params:read()

on line 132 in angl, just above the params:bang() line. it will auto-load the default parameter set :slight_smile:

edit: I submitted a PR for this

A new EP sequenced with norns awake > crow:

Hi, hoping someone can help.

Using Norns/Awake through Crow, using output 2 to trigger Natural Gate doesn’t trigger each note. Does Crow output a trigger or an envelope from Awake?

Seems to only trigger once per cycle using the Hit input on Natural Gate. When I patch into the Control input I get a trigger for each step but it seems to sound like an envelope being output by Crow.

If I patch Output 2 to another drum module that just wants a rising edge, I get each note triggering. Natural Gate responds to very short triggers so I’m suspecting Awake is outputting an envelope but can’t seem to find a parameter on Norns to change this?

it’s in the code here: https://github.com/tehn/awake/blob/7e2be9615fb8bf4866a00a3d1ea30b2e545cacf1/awake.lua#L240

if value == 4 then crow.output[2].action = "{to(5,0),to(0,0.25)}"

this basically reads as:

  • if the parameter menu value for ā€œoutputā€ is the fourth option then…
  • set crow output 2’s action as…
  • go to 5 volts in 0 seconds (or, immediately) and…
  • go to 0 volts 0.25 seconds after that (250 ms)

if all you really need is a shorter trigger, you can adjust just the ā€œfall to 0 volts in X secondsā€ part to whatever duration you want (maybe 0.01 for 10ms, if you’re really cranking things…experiment!) and keep the rest of the code untouched! super good entry into customizing other people’s projects :slight_smile:

Hi Dan, I think this is exactly what is happening. I need to reduce the fall time to 0.01. Now then, confession time for me, I have never coded, like, anything, ever, though your explanation was really straightforward. And, I only bloody did it! :slight_smile: My first ever bit of coding! Thank you so much, you just changed a life :wink:

What a powerful (and tiny) combo these friends. Thank you to those who made (and helped to make) these devices and the channels through which they communicate. And thanks to those who helped me get them up and running.

Awake Delay Line Buffer Freeze Trick

I discovered a really cool technique upon first trying it all out. I ran the audio from JF back into norns and used the delay line that’s part of the script PARAMS. And then, by switching from internal clock to an unpatched external clock I was able to essentially create a buffer freeze so that I could make the freeze the actual music, and then insert a few notes and re-freeze before going fully internal and letting the phasing sequences from awake do their thing. SO freaking powerful.

And then, yeah, the case on the right is basically Rings into Clouds as played by Marbles. My old standby power trio. Oh, and the entire system is battery-powered! There’s a link in the video description to the gear used in case peeps want to know which battery banks I used (I tested a few different ones before landing on these, which work without issue) or whatever.

My favorite part, though is when the sparrow approached from the distance and its singing got louder and louder until it flew directly overhead and landed behind me in the big tree. Perfect timing that thing had and it was all recorded with the field recorder as it happened! Nature, you’re the best!

Are you going out of the JF into a Nearness? I had noticed you had all 6 outs patched into SOMETHING right next to it and it dawned on me last night while playing around trying to get some stereo spread out of the output of the JF that maybe that’s what you were doing there…

Yep. TELEXn. That way all 6 voices can be panned. Except I had accidentally left Milky Way’s secondary setting that adjusts the panning of the input channels to a central location that essentially collapsed my beautiful panorama into a narrow field :confused:

Ya! Great idea! I’m gonna have to get me one of those. The lack of spread on the 6 voices now that I’m using Crow is driving me nuts.

Not sure if this is a question specifically for Awake but has anyone encountered issues with crow clock out stability? I can’t get it to reliably clock my Pam’s New Workout - the Pam’s always either shows the clock drifting by +/- 2bpm, or shows ā€œunstable!ā€ when I’m trying to use crow as the master clock.
