a small session with barcode and other synth  thanks for the script!

wow! that is exceedingly beautiful. thanks for sharing that :grinning:

I’ve been using Barcode lately quite a lot, it’s a very inspiring app. This week I played a live set in which Barcode was looping kalimba, earlier on I made this piece:

One question though, I’ve recently had this happen that when I stop recording the loops stop playing. When I again push record on the previously recorded loops start again. What could be the reason behind this?

love your track!

sounds like you’ve found a :bug:! i’ve never seen this occur and off the dome i don’t know why it happened. some ?s: when the loops stop playing, do the lines still move or do they stop as well? can you make it happen consistently or is it sporadic? if its consistent, could you open maiden to see if any errors are spewing from it?

The lines still move when the loops stop playing and it happened consistently even after reloading Barcode or switched off the power from Norns. I’ll try to replicate the issue again tomorrow!

Hi, could you please add mono input if possible? FWIW Otis has this option. Many thanks

input is already mono, i believe.

here’s the relevant code:

basically since all six voices are already utilized for playback, i only utilize one voice for recording. that voice records both channels into it so its converting stereo to mono.

just dropping by to say thanks for this wonderful script! It really incorporates so many things I wished norns scripts would do more often, simple interfaces with a lot of power, generative attitude first, quick to get setup, little to memorize, etc.

I had set my norns aside for a while not really knowing how it fit into my practice and have been spending time learning piano from the ground up. Yesterday I got out the norns and hooked it up to my keyboard and it was like a whole new avenue of thinking and working opened itself with barcode.

thanks!

I’ll share some tracks if I feel like anything is ready to go soon

@bmoren i appreciate that  with this script in particular i did try to make it nice sounding with the defaults. would love to hear what you are cooking up!

so i’ve been dreaming about grid integration for barcode a bit. personally don’t have the skills to make this happen but seems really fun in my head. something like a column of six buttons to switch between each loop, and then five rows to control L, P, R, D, T for whichever loop you are currently viewing. maybe a + and - next to each row to control lfo rate? basically would allow multiple manipulations at the same time with quick switching. i’m sure someone out there could come up with a more elegant solution, but the idea sounds so sick. crossing my fingers and hoping somebody with the coding chops takes this on!

Finally having time to enjoy this and it’s amazing! I pretty much only used the er 301 to do this exact patch and it was a lot of work to get it going. This is so simple and perfect.
A couple of questions… what is the overdub/overwrite set up? It would be great if this could be controlled some how.
What about clocking one or more of the lfos?
I know you said that you enjoy most the chaos that’s created and I agree, but being able to have maybe a single element in there that can be determined would be great too.
Anyway these are only minor suggestions to something that is aleady exceptional

@hghrlearning i dream about gridding too :crescent_moon: one day i might find myself with a grid and then suddenly all my scripts will be getting an overhaul …

@yoyosandshoes glad its working for you! would love to see what kind of creations you have going  followed your suggestions towards a new release:

v0.6.0 - quantization and more control over recording

changelog

  • feature: add quantization (in global parameters, turn quantize to on and set global clock)
  • feature: allow toggling recording from global params (so it can be set from external things e.g. touchosc, midi controller).
  • feature: allow changing rec/pre levels for controlling overdubbing

the rec/pre levels in the global menu mirror the softcut docs:

  • rec: how much of the input gets recorded to the buffer
  • pre: how much of the pre-existing material stays in the buffer

Wow that was super quick thank you!! I will be using this in a performance ina couple of weeks. I will share the performance recording or some prep recordings if I make them. Thanks for sharing your great work
