my keystep is pitched at least 2 octaves too high when i connect to vcos in my modular. has anyone had experience with something like this? i tried to fix it via the midi control station app but it doesn’t seem to help.

have you used any other CV keyboards with the same VCOs?

nope, haven’t (new to modular!)

edit: i think ive sorted it satisfactorily - probably speaks more towards my novice understanding of VCOs than to the keystep

Anyone seen any more recent options in compact keyboards with CV/gate out that are not the Qunexus or the Keystep? Had the Qunexus, wasn’t fond of the feel although it got the job done. Had the Keystep, returned it the final time, promising myself not to buy anything from Arturia ever again.

A winning combination for me would be something with CV, MIDI, USB (class compliant), aftertouch and velocity. Bonus points if it had Bluetooth too.

I don’t have a solution, and realize the Keystep isn’t perfect, but I’m curious as to why you’ve sworn off Arturia?

Sworn off might be a bit strong a term, I admit. I’ve just had enough sub-par quality issues and sluggish to non-existent customer support experiences regarding the Microbrute, the first Beatstep and the Keystep. Beatstep Pro worked nicely, excluding some bugs that were fixed by firmware updates.

It may well be a possibility that I end up with a reasonably priced Keystep, but first I’d like to see some options. Sadly, I haven’t seen a lot of those.

I’ve found aftertouch to be a tough ask, even for MIDI keyboards! Searched for a long time for a nice barebones MIDI keyboard with aftertouch.
I use a MicroBrute and send an Alesis VI49 to the MIDI in on the MicroBrute. I also like having the ADSR faders near the keyboard, and tap tempo clock via the LFO in square mode, so the MicroBrute gives you a lot of control all underneath my fingers at once :woman_shrugging:
