really pleased to see some more experimental, unpredictable type noises and sound device scripts on norns - thankyou!

I think I munged this with another demo I saw. It sounds really rungly! I’ve made a few and ported a few Benjolins and this is a wonderful patch

2.0.0 Update! (install from the Maiden library)

Breaking changes

The params menu has changed (it won’t change again but hence the 2.0.0 designation)
*(If you have previously installed Benjolis AND have, at any time, mapped a MIDI controller to the parameters, please delete the file /home/we/dust/data/benjolis/benjolis.pmap [note that you will lose the previous mappings])

Updates

  • UI controls now provide feedback when modified from a mapped controller
  • Added 4 external MIDI-note input mappings for external sequencing (this can get pretty nuts)
    • MIDI notes can be mapped to either frequency or “CC” style params
    • Mappings can be enabled and disabled via MIDI mapping
    • Mappings can be MIDI Channel specific
  • Better spacing of UI
  • Simple delay-based panner

Most of this was in order to satisfy some features I needed as well (such as enabled and disabled external control per channel).

Also please be careful with the rungler filter and Q as this can be sensitive to explosions (especially if you are piping it through the reverb).

Let me know if there are any issues.

I used Benjolis to great effect at a show this past weekend. I recorded the set, but have yet to listen back to it. It’ll probably be some time before I’m able to go back to it and share, but I will eventually. Anyway, thanks for the great script, @scazan.

@loma that’s great to hear! would love to hear the result!

wondering if anyone has experienced this…after midi mapping my 16n to all the parameters (accept the volume) when i reload the script it no longer produces any audio. although the midi mapping has saved which is helpful.

*hmmmm strange i tried restarting a few times and now it seems to be fine false alarm!

ok so after playing with it for a few mins after restarting it stopped producing audio again:/

Yes I’ve had this happen too. After tweaking some settings in Benjolis, I had it crash the audio and had to reset Fates to have it work again.

ah I think I know what this is… is it by chance changing the rungler filter that is causing this?

I will look into the engine and see if I can add some safeties. I think it is blowing up the filter.

it’s hard to tell which parameter is causing it, giving the more chaotic nature of tweaking parameters. it seems fine for a while and then just dies out. usually putting my fates to sleep will temporarily solve it until it happens again.

Benjolis 2.0.1

Added in some limiting/soft distortion when it peaks to prevent the filters from exploding.
This should help prevent crashing the norns and causing you to need rebooting. I’ll keep testing to see if I can crash it some more just in case

I highly recommend updating to this release as it can prevent accidental and sudden auditory surprises/assaults.

Thats an awesome Display you got going there. Looks fantastic with the panel color and dials. Whats the specs on it? Do you have a digi/mouser part number?

are you referring to the orange led display that @justmat has on the norns in the video?

Ah, if that is the case, it’s this screen here…

Also, just in case, that is a factory norns with an alternative screen. If you’re looking for the yellow screen for a norns sheild or fates build, it needs the pin header, not the ribbon cable connections.

for a second it looked like they had a blue graphic screen on their listing.

all excited for a moment…but…nope.

Can anyone walk me through the midi mapping process a little bit more? I’m using a Korg Nano Control 2…
