hey all. so it’s about time the intro/welcome/sticky thread is updated, with a sort of “best-of” links.
here’s what i’m going to edit/combine:
A gathering place for discussion about sound, process, and technology. To foster the exchange of ideas: an in-depth response to a newly discovered album, or a possible solution to a common programming/patching issue, or a curious use of toasted pumpkin seeds and mango.**
We’re very glad to have you. Say hello. Check out the list of best threads as a starting point, and please take a moment to read the community guidelines .
LINES is supported by monome.org (why? )

this is brian writing. it’s the vernal equinox. we’ve been struggling to figure out how to “properly launch” a new idea in this saturated digital universe. instead of our typical hyper-minimalist handful of undecipherable words, here is a stream of consciousness, with the help of whiskey.
we’ve been fostering what could be called a healthy online community for just about ten years now. the monome community has generated an admirable amount of open-source code and patches, collaborative music re…
please post thread links! help me find those buried resources.
Continuing the discussion from A section for "sound and process"? :
After spending a few weeks considering what @raytracer had posted, I realized that I also wanted to know how the producing members of our community use the gear that’s brought us together. Globally, this got me thinking about my time with lines and how I could best contribute to our weird and wonderful hub.
With that, I’m excited to share the inaugural episode of SOUND + PROCESS – a podcast made for and about the monome communi…

I’d suggest including the Pictures thread:
We must have a thread just for pictures of our sound-making machines!..
Here is my oldie-but-goodie to start with:

Hello all,
I just built my monome. Haven’t messed around a lot yet. I was just wondering what everyone’s go to apps are. There are a lot and it is hard to tell what’s happening even with a video and description. I would like to know what everyone has fun with. Thanks!
My favourite thread on the monome community over the last couple of years has been the “latest tracks / videos” thread. Thanks to that thread I now follow a good few musicians on instagram / youtube / vimeo / bandcamp / soundcloud and get a load of quality tracks in my normal social media feed.
Get involved, people! Let me hear your tunes!

tehn:
we’re seeking a meeting place for a community interested in sharing meaningful content and discussion. we value the decentralized emergence of information, not simply reacting to a single voice. we appreciate an environment that does not encourage hyper-consumption. we have no intention of being product-focused.
i’m glad i can read that paragraph again. a good reminder.

I like this one very much as it gives a good impression of the cultural sphere the forum is embedded in and is so inspiring:

The two that come to my mind are:
> teletype : code exchange
On exercises, practicing, and rehearsing
The Teletype code exchange seems useful as a place to discuss how we’re all finding our way with such open ended and powerful hardware. Excited for the next batch so I can get one for myself.
The latter thread seems to address the more philosophical issue of how we approach creating things, structure our work, and self-assess our progress.

I’ll go for the recursive option: Best representative threads
It’s a great thread full of useful links.

Hi,
I’m curious if anyone has any thoughts about how to “be” online in way that encourages good communication and a consistent persona across different sites such as forums, social media, for-sale sites, etc. I’m not sure if other people experience this, but I have a very difficult time not compartmentalizing my online persona for each site I use. I end up never posting or building a real profile because it requires so much energy and I feel completely anonymous/untrustworthy…I’ve found a wealt…
I like this one also
I love every thread unconditionally.
