I have a nob (got it 2 years ago) and use it all the time, highly recommended!

Been eyeing this for a bit:

Windows only…

I picked up a Surface Dial and Elephant recently, imagining it would be really nice with Bitwig. But IMHO it feels pretty hacky and it doesn’t feel very consistent to me in the scrolling speed.

Noooooo…

That’s a bummer.

wowow - thanks for the replies all! and yep – signed up for the nOb update list - fingers crossed the ‘two weeks’ check back date isn’t an artifact from a few years ago ha.

But totally heard + cosign all above – the funny thing is it seems like there’s no shortage of knobs, its just the magic software side integration of a seemingly-simple-yet-frustratingly-hard-to-find ‘turn/slide whatever i hold my mouse over’ ha.

Intereting/bummer to hear re: elephat/surface dial too, tho!

trying to figure out if it has the ‘mouse hover’ functionality, but dang that TE ortho knob is gorgeous, too tho!

This looks interesting:

Has anyone tried this?

Not a ton of info on that site, but looks promising. It’s listed as an add-on, does it work standalone?

Looks like it part of a system you need the master module.

I realize you’re asking about digital, but @TomWhitwell’s upcoming CONTROL module is pretty damn great (I have one of the beta units. I really like the DIFF and CHNG outs).

He also wrote some words on the subject here:

(Thanks to @renegog for the link.)

I don’t know if you’re on Mac or PC but if you happen to be on a Mac and use the touchpad, I found that enabling three finger drag https://www.cultofmac.com/681533/transform-your-macs-trackpad-with-the-3-finger-drag/ has been the thing that made all the difference for me when working with sliders and knobs in music software.

If you start a drag with three fingers you just have to leave two fingers on the pad and can get really fine grained control with the third finger.

Before learning about this, I was looking for all sorts of control schemes like you but I haven’t felt the need to do that ever since learning this trick.

Same here. That’s what I use when doing “live patch” performances with zebra etc, as it ended up being more intuitive than using my nOb.

ah this is brilliant! sad to say im on PC these days, but hoping to be back on Mac once things settle down with the intel/ARM update - can totally see how this makes sense tho

Yep, cannot absolutely not recommend it. It’s the same guy who did the Kontrolmaster which was a desaster software wise. I specifically bought a surface dial and elephant a couple of years ago and at that time, it did not work when you were a lefty (switched mouse buttons) and even caused a couple of bluescreens, very hacky.
Never had those issues with the nob

oof yah – ive been researching pretty heavily and (un)surprisingly this might have a coda as a WTB nOb thread, ha.

Shame the software side isnt open source, looks like it’s pretty much just an arduino in a box - would be a fun project to DIY one!

For the DIY crowd - Adaruit has a little project for a “Media Dial” with Circuit Python so it’d be easy enough to reprogram for midi, HID or whatever.

Should we grab 4 of these and attempt diy arc?
