Blippoo for Wingie: a Wingie2's alternative firmware

Get it: Release Blippoo for Wingie v1.0 · mengqimusic/bfw · GitHub

Blippoo for Wingie is an alternative firmware for Wingie2. The new firmware is inspired by Blippoo Box, a genius instrument created by Rob Hordijk (1958-2022), who contributed a lot to synthesizer design. May his spirit lives on in his instrument designs, thoughts, and influences.

The new firmware could turn your Wingie2 into a self-contained instrument capable of producing a variety of sounds and patterns. As a great companion, it will help you in your music-making practice especially when you want to applicate controlled chaos to your music.

now i regret not getting a wingie and it’s funny…i used the free wing pinger resonator app as reason to talk myself out of buying one!

great job on the alt firmware :cowboy_hat_face:
this sounds too amazing to ignore any longer

Astonishing firmware, a completely different approach to this utterly beautiful box

Looking forward to trying this out! Love that Blippoo sound.

The new firmware works quite well, and has made the Wingie 2 unputdownable for me. I was intrigued by it before, but I am not someone who enjoys puttering with midi.

Now, it has an emergent richness on its own, similar to that which the Wing Pinger or other Hordijk-aligned objects offer. Just so dang cool.

It’s magical. It amazes me how well the controls approach works without having been designed for this purpose. Even so, if you add a 16n it turns into a delight.

Congrats on the release @MengQiMusic ! Super excited to explore the Blipoo on one of my favorite instruments. I think I’ll call mine “Blingie” now :bubbles: :magic_wand: :stars:

Did you have to mess with the mapping at all or was that default for both devices?

@MengQiMusic Thanks for this great firmware, it’s a lot of fun. Stupid question that I should have asked before but how do you come back to the “regular” firmware ? Do I have to reflash every time ? Could it be possible to have the two firmware at the same time and have a key combo at boot to choose between both ?

16n was mapped with the 16 config tool.

Faders are CC 1 to CC 16 to use all the functions on Wingie Blippoo. I change the order to use faders 15 and 16 as input mix and volume.

Yeah, to switch between the two firmwares will require a reflash each time. Nice idea to have both combined though, and should be possible (assuming that there is sufficient space).

I’ve looked at the github but I don’t see a process similar to the blippoo firmware to flash the original one
