Multiple Warheads was also enjoyable but I think near the end he kind of gives up on any sort of coherent story in that one, although I could be misreading. Still amazing world building and interesting locales though.

I’ve been watching a bunch of Lawrence Krauss videos, kicked off by his appearance on the Rogan podcast, and this is his most current book.

It’s taking me through the concepts in physics that underlie the contemporary view of how things work.

I took some physics in high school (it was 20 years ago! WHAT!!!?) so some of the stuff sounds sort of famiiiiiliar, but really trying to just understand the concepts–even devoid of the math–is really hard for me.

Seriously…the double slit experiment…fuck right off. (and I know it gets weirder from there)

François J. Bonnet. The Order of Sounds. Bloody brilliant book. That’s Eliane Radigue on the cover!

Oof, I just finished it. It was pretty demanding and I definitely didn’t get everything that Bonnet put into it, but there was a beauty to the writing that kept me trudging through the more intense stretches. Enjoy!

yeah, I’m reading it for the second time, just to try and follow him more closely!

I’m re-reading Jerusalem Poker by Edward Whittemore (1933-1995).

Consider this blurb:

On the last day of December 1921, three enigmatic men - Cairo Martyr, a blue-eyed African who controls the Middle East’s supply of aphrodisiac mummy dust; O’Sullivan Beare, a former Irish patriot and gunrunner who has made a fortune selling spurious, phallic-shaped Christian artifacts; and Mark Szondi, a dedicated Zionist who wagers only fried fish futures - sit down to a fateful game of poker in the back room of a Jerusalem antiquities shop owned by a 3000-year-old knight errant. The Great Jerusalem Poker Game as it came to be called, would last twelve years and had as its stake nothing less than control of Jerusalem itself…

fyi, the author curates a weekly transmission on french public radio.

Just on the off-chance people didn’t realize, I figured I’d add that Kassel Jaeger is Bonnet’s performing pseudonym. Highly recommended!

Have just read the first 50 pages or so of Stewart Homes Memphis Underground. ( another of his books has a much better title but as i mainly read on the london Underground I advoided that one). Though he is someone I have known about for years this is the first book of his i have read.

My initial impression that there is a purposely flat, artless writing style employed.the levels of arch wit, sarcasm and provocative baiting are difficult to fathom- but it is this rather than anything in the narrative itself that keeps me interested.perhaps its an attack on art but Im not sure how much this actually rings true. The chapters alternate between two twin narritives with (untrustworthy?) interludes from the author. Its not at all unenjoyable -trying to work out where one is being wound up and where he might be serious.

Cant think of much else like it.Any one have any insights?

Yes Kassel Jaeger is great. I didn’t realise they were one and the same until I finished the book.

I love this collection very much. So much depth to get lost in.

ah, i remember being quite impressed with it as a teenager, but i couldn’t possibly quote even one thing from it now  i’d say the fact i read it translated may have something to do with this

Just read the first volume of Prophet, and I liked it a lot. A lot a lot. It reminded me favorably of Moebius.

Thanks. Just downloaded the first PDF of Old City Blues. Looks pretty great. I really dug that first volume of Prophet, and will be working through the subsequent volumes for sure.

Just saw a notice about this kickstarter for this book pop up in my feed.

It’s called PUSH TURN MOVE and features some Monome stuff in one of the product shots. Seems like it might be pretty cool!
