Good looking out, I had no idea this was a thing. Huge Roedelius fan. ORDERED!

The Phantom Tollbooth was on sale for a few bucks on the Kindle store. I remember being head over heels in love with that book as a kid. I can’t wait until my kids are old enough to read it. To my young mind it was the smartest and funniest book I had ever read, and probably developed my love of word play. Definitely going to give it a reread.

I finished Oathbringer yesterday. While most of the plot surprises weren’t the second time, it was still an intense ride!

And now I’ve restarted the Mistborn series. I wish it was enough to keep me busy until The Rhythm of War in November, but there’s no chance of that.

Just finished Stories of Your Life and Others by Ted Chiang. Not normally a short story person but really enjoyed this. The one that Arrival is based on is probably the best of the bunch, but they’re all good and quite varied.

It’s a quickie. First alternative history book I think I’ve ever read.

I have this on the way. Should be an great read:

Hans-Joachim Roedelius / The Book

[](The Speed of Sound: Hollywood and the Talkie Revolution 1926-1930 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001D1Y5EC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_.WyXEb9DCE6P7)

Currently reading “The Speed of Sound” by Scott Eyman, a well-written, wry history of talkies and how the new technology changed filmic imagination (detrimentally in some respects). I see parallels with the development of electronic music. Also introduced me to the the amazing 1927 film “Sunrise,” directed by F.W. Murnau and available on YouTube.

Okay, so this is fusing several threads (games, books) and interests.

I’m reading Trilemma Adventures, Compendium Volume 1, which is a series of system-agnostic RPG adventures built around beautiful isometric graphics. It was kickstarted and I managed to get a late copy despite not having known about it.

Interesting because: I’m a gamer; he manages to have wry, innovative and just fun adventures; he manages to collapse a huge amount of information (spatial, temporal, narrative) into a very small amount of space, …

So yeah, not a novel, but very cool.

He’s currently doing some supplements for the just-kickstarted Torchbearer 2. RPG.

(If any of you are intrigued, his site is at http://trilemma.com. I’m not affiliated in any way).

Yeah, I have the PDF. Definitely excited for the TB work based on previews he has shared on Twitter that I noticed. Super cool art approach to little dungeons and adventure spaces.

I loved his interaction with Luke over the redo of an adventure map set in a tavern. Nice to see ideas from rough sketch to semi-finished form. Hmmmm… sounds vaguely like music experience…

It’s funny because I game with some guys who are working with Thor on some TB supplements and separate Sagas books and helping playtest those things and 2nd edition. I get a window into the process and it has been fascinating in that regard. It really is just another creative process that is so incredibly similar. Never spent much time pondering that aspect of gaming, though I’ve always said BWHQ is the Dischord Records of gaming and I think Luke appreciates that comparison. There is a way they operate that I just adore. It helps that they also make really special games.

Nice. Check out her earlier work, ‘The Enchantment of Modern Life’ too, if you haven’t already. Intriguing material.

Fair warning for anyone who orders this. It wasn’t packed very thoughtfully given the cost of the book, so mine had a bit of damage. Nothing major, but it was surprising that it was just tossed in a box that wasn’t snug without any wrap or anything protecting it.

Not sure if I should write them suggesting that moving forward or if they’d just not respond very well to it. But yeah, a $55 book shouldn’t arrive damaged.
