Anyone has had any experience with ALM patch cables? I’m considering them as I usually buy from Signal Sounds and can have them shipped together with my next module purchase. I was also considering Control BT cables, of which I’ve read mostly good things already, but would end up costing considerably more to have them sent here.

So far I’ve been using Korg SQ-Cable-6 (all 30", all different colors) and a handful of stackcables, but would preferably start using something I could get in different colors and lengths and all stackcables is not an option.

Does anyone else use the Koma attenuator cables? I have one but I feel the response doesn’t have a very wide range. I’m new to this so might be wrong.

I have a handful and find the attenuator slider to be extremely fiddly

I have some but agree, the slider is way too difficult to dial in. I use the ones I have as fixed attenuators for signals coming out of my eurorack and have actually taped the sliders down at a mid position.

I have a few and agree that they are fiddly. I have a somewhat specific use for them though, so they are more or less set and forget.

If you mean mixing two outputs into one input on a stackcable, generally no, you shouldn’t do that. For some gear it might be ok (Make Noise says it’s ok to mix gates / triggers with a passive mult) but for most gear I would avoid it. A stackcable is the same electrically as a passive mult, so if you search ‘mixing with passive multiple’ you can find more info.

To add on to what DMR said, this is essentially the equivalent of connecting an output to another output and can potentially damage your modules (though most designs include protections against this) and is generally something you do not want to do.

I can’t recommend enough the POLAR NOISE shielded patch cables. They feel great and the build quality is superb. I’ve tried a LOT of brands (CONTROL CAMO, BEFACO, BLACK MARKET, ENDORPHINES, … etc) and they are by far the best.

Got many of these cables from the same Ali store (that also have a different listing with a couple different colors). IMHO it’s the best option for colors and lengths variety, the cables are smooth and nicely built, very much similar to the Black Market ones. I replaced all my Doepfer ones, which I was unhappy with, because all the unfixable kinks.

I’m not sure where the best place for this question is, but: is there a reason it’s difficult/impossible to find a cable that splits a 3.5mm stereo cable into left and right 3.5mm mono cables, as opposed to, for instance, 1/4" cables?

Stereo break outs are more commonly 3.5mm TRS to dual 3.5mm TSF like this (meaning you need a 3.5mm TS patch cable too). I literally just soldered a 3.5mm TRS to dual 3.5mm TS to avoid the need for the extra two patch cables when it’s going between adjacent modules. I guess this is what you want?

The Hosa YMM-261should be what you want.

Edit: just saw @chalkwalk recommended the same

I think they’re just less common because monophonic home audio gear like a speaker / monitor is more likely to use a 1/4 or RCA jack.

Same here; polarnoise Have displaced the rest for me, except stackables. About 2 years in with them and none have crapped out, but im gentle with them.
