For the amount of small cables (10-15cm) that you would need, check the modules that are next to each other that you’ll likely end up connecting together.

I very often have the stereo output of my PicoDSP plugged in the Bastl Ciao next to it, for example. and having small cables for this kind of connections makes patches much easier to follow.

Beautiful system! Maybe get a couple more of the 9cm ones, they are super useful for self patching which I do a lot with IFM modules and cold mac.

@Rodrigo
One thing I’ll add: I have a bunch of the control cameo cables and though they look great and have wonderfully tiny barrels, they feel noticeably cheap and kinky compared to most other audio cables I own. I recently got a couple tip top stackables and the difference in cable quality was Huge. They’re also about 4x more expensive, so they should be, but just a heads up.

I’ve had a bunch of stackables break on me over the years (once during a performance), so I gave up on them and bought a fist full of mults

good to know!

but I’ll add: stackcables are prone to breaking where the cable is attached to the plug. I absolutely loved them (feel, usefulness) untill it happened to me, say 2 years in… and I’m rather cautious about pulling the plug and not the cable.

also very happy so far with bmm (or whoever produces them)

edit: analogue01 beat me to it

Oh really? I find these to be super poor in quality. Never had a Doepfer cable break in contrast to the 4 Tip Top Stackables which broke. I’m very annoyed that they patented them. The cables are so useful, but low quality and expensive, wish somebody else did them better.

really? had some doepfer cables and they were by far the quickest to break (contacts inside that is)

@madeofoak:
:wink: folks are savage about those stackables

I have a couple of stackables, but have more or less stopped buying them in favour of the Intellijel hub mult. I’ll second the comments on Control cables. I have some, but very much prefer the Befaco cables.

Definitely making a note of that. Looks like I’ll just go with the BMMs and leave it at that.

Since I plan on keeping things patched for the most part, and won’t have a proper/firm lid, stackables feel like a bad idea in my case. Is there any (quality/durability?) benefit of the Intellijel quad mults vs those monomult things?

Same here. Very useful but they don’t seem as flexible.

The intellijel mults are magnetic. I use the monomults. Definitely prefer the intellijel buffered mult in my case though. The freestanding mults just kinda float directly in the way of everything.

i really prefer erthenvar IV cables over stackables. nice and sturdy cables, you only get 1 extra connection instead of stackables 2 but that’s often enough (and if you use another IV cable you can just continue extending them like that). unfortunately it looks like they’re discontinued - they used to have more colours, now it’s only black 60cm or 360cm…

I agree with @madeofoak regarding the Control cables. They come individually tied and are kinked about every 8cm (as if the were wrapped around a small hand). I ordered a bunch a while back, and despite being hung up, they are still “wavey.”

The super short ones are great for patching adjacent jacks though, and they are too short to be kinked up a bunch. If memory serves though, they did ship them individually wire-tied.

On the flip side, I have some LMNTL cables that feel really sturdy and stay nice and straight.

The HUb mults come in both magnetic and no magnetic. I don’t think there’s any difference in performance between those and the monomult. I agree it’s also worth having mounted BMs if your case space allows.

It’s 2HP well spent.

My favourite cables are the Hexinverter ones. They come in only two colours, but I’m ok with that. Lots of lengths, and the seem pretty robust. Really small barrels.

Edit: I just saw that these are made by the same company that makes the BMM cables, so get whichever are easiest to buy in your area :slight_smile: The only benefit of the Hex cables is that they have a cat on them…

haha totally didn’t see that coming.
mine are just fine so far, but really i was talking more about the quality of the cable itself - the control ones are thin, plastic-y and very kinked whereas the tiptop ones are thicker, smooth and very flexible. almost un-kinkable. if i were to rebuy a ton of new ones i’d probably go bmm.

i’ve been feeling the same about the control cables. just got a bunch of the new(ish?) hosa patch cables – the cables feel very similar to stackcables to me! really liking them

+1. thin, sturdy barrels with a grip indentation topping very good-feeling housing.
