i bought a bunch of stereo-to-2xmono(shared-ground) Y-splitters, very similar to these, from CableStop on Ebay, then I bought some more! use them with the softpop.

Their reply about TS splitters is true in the sense that TRS splitting isn’t what you actually need, but I can’t imagine any modular synth situation where the extra ring on the plugs and extra conductor in the cable would cause anything different to happen, they just aren’t used. The Hosa Hopscotch cables are the ā€œcorrectā€ option, but I haven’t had any issue (nor can I understand how one would) with TRS splitters.

I sent that exact follow up question right after posting my previous comment. If used as a mult only, Make Noise says:

No it won’t do any harm. The worst that could happen is intermittent connection and/or momentary shorting

Can you post a link or pic?

Forgot about these. Found them a few weeks ago and wanted to order one. Not sure how well it’ll fit in all spaces, but might be fun.

These are amazing. Getting some!

i have one of these in white for headphone splitting. they look great in black

I don’t want to shit on my local shop but I have almost all Control cables and they have definitely caused problems within my system. For example, when they are plugged into my ES8 I get crackling static sounds if I lightly touch them. I thought it was the module for a long time until I started trouble shooting with different cables. They seem to fit into that module very loosely and they can be pulled out so easily. I knock them out by accident all the time.

I personally find the jacks used by Expert Sleepers are a little loose with any cable.

When I took the modular plunge about a month ago I bought a bunch of Ad Infinitums from Analogue Haven because that’s what came with my 0-Coast. I’m happy with their look, feel, and performance, but after a few weeks of being in and out of a cable hanger they are still veeeery kinked from being twist-tied before they shipped to me. I figured that gravity would have worked that out by now. I feel pretty stupid for considering re-buying ~20 cables from a different manufacturer (I was thinking BMM or Bored Brain) but I’m pretty bummed out by the look of kinky cables.

Do any of you have a tried and true way of de-kinking cables?

Edit: a quick search yielded this cup/hot water method, which I’ll try tonight unless someone has a better way! https://lifehacker.com/5787849/remove-kinks-in-cables-with-a-glass-of-hot-water-and-tape

Hmmm I also mostly use their cables and haven’t really had any such problems… but I do remember the jacks on my Disting mk3 being irritatingly loose before I ditched it, maybe its endemic of their products? I know they had jack problems w/ older Distings.

The Control cables don’t feel any looser to me than the Hosa & Ad Infinitum strays I have bumming around, but maybe it’s just subtle enough to beef with loose jacks.

The Ad Infinitum cables I bought 4-5 years ago are still kinked the same way as on day one. Which is one reason why I won’t buy any other cables from them. The barrel is also a bit big but that’s rarely an issue.

I much prefer the BMM-style cables, they do look and feel much better to me.

I’m considering buying some BoredBrain cables as shipping is less expensive for me to Japan than BMM and none of these are available locally…

Hey everyone! I am new here.
I was wondering if anyone have recommendations for good banana cables, I just got a phenol not long ago and the cables that comes with are neither good nor sufficient …

@khaled

Pomona banana cables are the usual recommendation (they’re available lots of places - below is just a fairly random link).

Tom at Bugbrand has some too (which might be a bit cheaper if you are EU based especially).

update on cable unkinking: it works!

i wound the kinky cables around a pot, boiled water in another pot, poured the boiling water into the cable pot, and after the water was cooled down the cables were unkinked.

Been a black modular cable guy since I started - don’t see myself changing anytime. No kinks, low profile but not so low like the Control ones which feel too small to my fingers. Nice bright selection of colors and lengths.

I haven’t even patched with them yet, but I just got some Black Market Modular cables today and they feel way nicer than the price would lead you to believe! And no kinks.

These MengQiMusic springy cables look fun.

The reason most of the cables out there kink so bad (made worse by way they are packaged) is that the cable jacket is made from a cheap low-grade PVC. You mentioned the Boredbrain cables (I happen to have the inside scoop on them ). Those will not suffer from this issue cause the jacket is a flexible rubberized-PVC, and overall it’s a little thicker. It’s one of this first things you notice with them, and you can tell also by the rubbery matte texture.
