A new one from me, on a short run (16) of recycled/upcycled old cassettes.

Two recent live performances – Eurorack, VCVrack, Microfreak, circuit bent SK-1, electric upright bass, tapes & some other goodies…

Jessica Ackerley, Kevin Cheli, Gahlord Dewald: Submerging Silently

Short run of cassettes, Ackerley in particular is pretty fire so if you’re into this kind of thing now’s the time.

RIYL: free improvisation, wandelweiser, insane guitar textures achieved with only 3 pedals, genuine skronk, improvisation that has a little room to breathe now and then.

I’m delighted to announce two very different tapes on my label Bivalve, both of which featuring lines members. These were a long time coming, chiefly delayed as I entered—and eventually after about two years, emerged from—certain personal difficulties.

bvlv4 – bumbleblack and bobulesque by James Worse and Corved Space by Chester Winowiecki (@cwpotter)

James Worse specialises in his own seemingly nonsensical, parallel form of poetic English; slightly sinister and poignant in its utter whimsy, and always funny too. Electroacoustic accompaniment completes the bizarre and fascinating tapestry. I first encountered James at LinOb Festival 2017 at Vinyl Deptford, London; I was greatly entertained by his performance and it cheers me a lot after these years to be putting out some of his singular material.

Chester’s work ‘Corved Space’ is a room recording using ciat-lonbarde Fourses, as with his 2021 album Safety Precautions which will be familiar to some here. I was given several long pieces to choose from for this release and wish I’d been able to use the lot, as his techniques and style are so satisfying to me.

bvlv5 – 2bpev by Magic From Space (@dude) and Moonlight Sword 1 by Moonlight Sword (also @dude but alongside Joe Bastardo)

Colourful, uplifting and beautifully produced electronics. I have just run out of time to finish this post but I will be back with a full description. Suffice to say, I’m so happy to be releasing this.

This tape sort of represents a new ‘season’, as I order the folding cards in batches corresponding to four releases. So there’s a new navy blue colour scheme for the folding boxes:

Fresh release on a new Swedish tape label/small press publisher called HSP. Leftfield-something something/noise/industrial-oriented. Check it out!

Description says:
"What started as a discussion on music for flowers collapsed on itself and out of the compost heap grew something completely else. HSP presents a pan-scandinavian split tape with focus on dense, textural sound work.

On the A-side, split into three segments, Merg guides us through murky basements, through moist ducts and tunnels with unknown terminus. Maybe getting lost for the sake of it, all the while mumbling muffled gibberish to themselves.

Sumrak on the B-side is more concerned with the expansive. Here we are faced with the comfort of solitude, pensive dwellings on the pastoral as well as the primeval. In essence, a rural landscape whispering forgotten words to those who dare to listen."

OOhhh, just seeing this today, listening now and it’s quite majestic. Richard and I did a bunch of projects together and with others around the end of the 2010’s and I always loved the sounds he coaxed out of the melodeon… no exception here!

Please say “Hi!” from me next you see him!

@taylor12k Gorgeous silkscreening/stamping. Do you have a preferred manufacturer you work with for designs like these? I’m looking to release a series of cassettes from an upcoming live set (I’ll be recording it live and also releasing the studio version on the ‘B’ side).

I’m in Michigan and would love to keep production US/Canadian based if possible. I’m a designer by day so I would love to get really detailed with the design elements of the production. PM is cool too if that’s preferred!

… If it’s okay with you, I would love to know also

That Norelco case is next level dope.

My label has dropped a new tape titled “Aurora.” Post-Carnatic experimental drone, etc.

tl;dr

In late 2018, trumpeter Indofunk Satish was attending Chennai’s annual Carnatic music festival and as inspired to produce an album that featured traditional Carnatic music, but with a Moog-era modular synthesizer serving the function of the tamboura (drone). It took him 2 years to find the perfect analog synth maestro, Chris Cortier, and record the material that became the first 2 tracks of Saraswati Trading Company. One week after the initial recording session, New York City went into lockdown due to COVID-19, and the recording project was put on indefinite hold. During lockdown, Satish recruited violinist Easwar Ramakrishnan and kanjira play Swaminathan Selvaganesh, both based in Chennai, for remote recording sessions to complete the album. Cortier continued to contribute the synth tracks.
