hey! sorry to hear about the troubles. cheat codes 2 is designed to natively support 64-sized grids — perhaps a setting is off?

under params > grid, do you have LED set to 4 step? and grid size set to 64?

only thing i can think of is whether your clone supports 4 step brightness or is it monobright? i’m noticing that the three keys at the top of the 64 template are not optimized for monobright, so perhaps that’s it! an easy fix, if so.

any additional detail would be awesome

Hello Dan,
thanks for the quick reply.
Yes I tried all the settings for teh 64 grid (mono, 4 step, varibright) but nothing seems to work unfortunately.
It is a shame as I would like to use norns for sample duties so CC2 is just the right thing.
as said it works out of the box with looms but also with cheatcodes

hmm. folks have been using the 64 template successfully, so i’m hopeful that the monobright misalignment is the bulk of the trouble

can you please confirm if your grid is monobright?

either way, i’ll do some work on it this week and let you know when it’s ready for further testing :tada: excited for you to be able to use the script!

Is there a TouchOSC template for Cheat Codes 2? Where can I download it?
I don’t have a Grids, but I want to try Cheat Codes with my Ipad Mini.
Thanks!

Hey Pepe, fellow spaniard here,

I’m updating the layouts myself, so far I started with the iPhone (mobile) layout and it’s not finished as I want it to be, I still want to re consider what controls are best to have at hand. There’s tabs but I don’t want to overdo it. If you can’t wait for it to finish, you can start playing with this around.
The idea would be something like this, plus a dedicated DELAY tab.
CC2_iPhone_test.touchosc (4.5 KB)

You can add it to you iPad Mini, but it’s not the ideal proportions unless is an iPhone 8 Plus

I don’t want to go over everything and explain since this is a beta, but basically rates on LOOPS affects all the pads, and in PADS the target is per pad. There’s some exceptions but you can experiment yourself. Sel x2, Sel ½ and rand pan are meant to be hold and press pads of ANY bank to change them.

Again, this layout will change, and I will make the iPad (tablet) size layout soon as well.
I’m currently discussing with Dan some parameters that I would like to have but I can’t address.

Gracias Carlos!

I have not tried Cheat Codes 2 yet. But I am going to try it with your touchosc template. Thanks for your work!

Hi there,
I am new with the Norns, but I hope I can help adding something in the future.
I come from the “classical” music (I hate this definition) as I am proffesional violinist and I want to experiment about the boundarys of old and new.
Hope you don’t mind I sahe my first steps w/ you all as I am very very very excited to start this path in Norns and Cheat Codes:

I tried to attach the wav file just in case it was usefull for someone but as I am new, the system does not allow to do so. If anyone want it, please ask me and I try to set a 7 days wetransfer link or something.

Happy holidays!
Stay safe

Welcome!!!

So cool and sounds so good! Feeding CC’s with an acoustic instrument is amazing and especially if you can actually play it as well as yourself. And most definitely keep the videos coming

Edit: if you ever want to shoot me some violin samples/recordings feel free to PM me for sure! Always welcome

Snagged! Kontakt libraries are great but IMO I’d much rather use raw recordings from users/friends. Cheers!

If I post anything with your .wav I will mos def link you.

Thanks so much for the midi implementation :purple_heart: still waiting on a softstep 2 and I’m looking forward to experimenting with setting up some hands-free looping.

On that note: Is there a way to midi map screen changes? It is really helpful to see the waveform for me and I’d love to be able to switch between the screens without having to fiddle with the knobs when doing live looping. Same goes with switching templates on the MFT. I think the dream would be to hit a footswitch and have the screen on norns and the MFT switch to the corresponding bank.

So much appreciation for this beautiful beautiful tool and all the care and creativity that has gone into it.

I also find myself switching between the timing page and waveform page very frequently. Mainly because I’m trying to feel the tempo by watching the counter in the timing page, and then checking to see that my audio is filling the buffer once I start recording. It would be cool if the visual met was also on the looper page, or if the timing page indicated when you were recording into a buffer (maybe I didn’t see it). Sometimes I’ll record when I expect to, and sometimes I’ll get a count in/pre record because I’m metronomeless without a computer.
Doing tempo sensitive live looping stuff is way tighter using link and ableton for me because I can hear the ableton met and I don’t have an auditory metronome from shields. So in that case I can watch the record head on the loops page and make sure I know where the 1 is recording into the buffer relative to the met. But also like using cheat codes 2 computerless because it is so powerful on its own. Ive been practicing doing more live looper stuff with it not connected to ableton.

Really excited to try using midi output to trigger some visuals.

Maybe I’m missing something, but I’m on Norns Shield and latest release of Cheat Codes 2 and I can’t get the rate on the delays page to go above -1. Turning E3 just gives me larger negative values for rate, up to -24. Happens in clocked and free delay modes. Any ideas? I’m a bit stumped.

Edit: figured that out…but I’m not getting any audio going into the delay buffer, even with feedback way up (97%) on both channels, with the send all the way up

i’ve been gone for a few days (moving from chicago -> catskills) and holy moly, there’s been so much great energy here! thank y’all

@Alicia, absolutely compelling – thank you for sharing this and for incorporating cheat codes into your process :sparkles: just downloaded the file, thank you for making it available – can’t wait to see what you do next with norns!!

this could be totally approachable as a local mod. i’ll set some time aside on monday to mock up a quick example :cowboy_hat_face:

makes total sense + definitely doable. i’ll make sure this gets into the next release, thank you for the FR!

i’m curious – for a tempo-sensitive live looping situation where there isn’t another metronome, would it also be helpful to have a bit more control over the transport? i’m thinking specifically how ableton live allows the transport to start when either an audio or midi clip begins recording – so maybe you could put the cheat codes transport into a dormant state, then based on whether “Start Playback with Record” is enabled, then either starting a one-shot audio recording or grid key pattern recorder would kickstart the transport?

hmm – is the send in this case the in or main output level? both need to be > 0 in order for the audio to enter into the delay line and for the delay line to come back into the main mix.

lmk how I can help!

I just want to take a moment to point out how wild and amazing it is that I just printed out a 51 page manual for this script. Thank you Dan for this huge and continued effort (and for all the others that made it possible).

Here’s to 2021.
