is it possible to send the internal clock from norns to crow while using cheat codes? i am trying to use cc as my main clock source and then send that out of crow to modules just via patch cables.

additionally i can’t really seem to get crow working as an external clock for cc. if crow is the external clock do i need to be clocking crow via one of it’s input jacks? and if so should any of the output jacks also be sending that clock?

i am having success in mlr using the “crow quant clock out”, so that’s essentially all i want to be able to do with cc : )

thanks dan! this creation of yours is amazingly weird and wonderful. i’m looking forward to becoming more fluent in its language.

p.s. if crow can output the quantized clock from cc, is it possible to configure the other outputs on crow to be quantized divisions / mults of the internal cc clock?

hey! so glad cc is finding its place in your toolkit!

cc-clock-to-crow-output + better crow-as-cc-clock is in the coming update. I can explore the div/mult idea, but was also interested in crow output 4 being the main clock and the other crow outputs being pulses every time a pad in one of the three banks is executed – this means that pattern playback would pulse each of crow’s other outputs (1,2,3) with each new pattern step (from banks 1,2,3). i think that could open up some really unique potential while still giving a single steady clock out.

hoping to have the update wrapped + released by the end of the week

that said, if anyone is up for testing, plz DM!

really basic question here, please forgive me (i’m a norns neophyte): i’m using fates without any controllers. i have cheat codes running as an aux send to process my ciat lonbarde rig. can anyone walk me through making it so each phrase sampler/looper records unique audio? once i record something on “a” and fiddle with it and then scroll down to “b” to record it seems to also record whatever i add then to “a”, same goes with “c”. - is there a way to record discrete samples that i’m missing?

There’s 3 clip buffers (well 3 for recording and 3 for samples).

Where I’m confused (and I think what your question is) is how to select between 1 2 3 without a grid. (and also switching between L and C without a grid)

@hawksquill, this is the core of your inquiry
this is not currently implemented. honestly, cheat codes just wasn’t designed without grid in mind. it’ll take some thinking (probably requiring an entirely new on-screen menu), but i am definitely happy to get that thinking done once this update is wrapped and released (which will be soon!). edit: @okyeron’s idea below is perf! it’ll be in the update

for the curious, here’s the WIP pdf manual for 1.1.1.1.1.1.1.1: cheat codes manual.pdf
page 9 starts the new-new stuff!

@hawksquill, i’ll be sure to add a “cheating gridless” section

wow pattern sequencing looks wild!

Really frustrated – I’ve loaded my 8s samples via param menu, assigned clip/buffer for each bank but I’m getting nothing but silence from everything?

Anyone else run into issues loading sounds?

Edit: just realized they’re 44.1kHz, gonna change to 48 and see if it helps

wrong samplerate should still work, just pitched up… something else?

I just rebooted, started clean, loaded my sample to slot 1, used alt+slot/clip to set the bank to the slot 1 sample. Tried banging on the pads and nothing. Sample confirmed plays on my computer and mediainfo doesn’t show anything funky?

Edit: even trying to load the builtins like drumilk.wav doesn’t work?

yeah i would not look for problems with the soundfile. instead:

  • ensure cheat codes is otherwise functioning,
  • ensure softcut volume is up in the mix page
  • try other scripts that use soundfiles
    &c

Not sure what I did, but after another reboot we’re doing just fine?

Thanks for your help!

oy! that hasn’t come up for me at all, very glad to hear it worked out with another restart . you were doing everything right. are you on the latest norns firmware + using a “factory” norns? or another config?

@zebra, thank you for the quick help, super appreciate it

Oh I really should have posted a full update, but got caught up playing with cheat_codes…

It ended up being a mixer issue. False alarm!

Will do! I need to spend some more time with it… I spent an hour having so much fun reliving the glory days of owning an SP-404. Now on to the nitty gritty

@stripes, I added pad -> crow output and it’s really fun. you win best feature request, hands down. :sparkles:

@andrew, you win best samples, hands down :sparkling_heart:

this has been a long update process, sincerest apologies and gratitude for the patience + excellent energy here. taking some time off this weekend. the release is actually done, it just requires a bit more documentation and a little bit of stress testing. if anyone is interested in getting into it and are able to help by playing with it, we can actually get this thing out wednesday. that would be :100::100::100:

DM for the updated script + guide :revolving_hearts:
