Been there! About a year ago I turned mine on for the first time and quickly realized I was not in Kansas anymore!

And welcome! Have fun!

looking forward to V2 - excited to use it to perform again

Take your time, don’t get drown on it. We’ve seen there were a couple of things to fix in the demo and that’s perfectly fine. We still have CC 1.3

While waiting for the update I spent some time to distill my notes of cheat codes v1.3.1 into a properly readable cheat sheet. This is just a draft which I will update and release (as PDF and SVG for further use) once the next version of CC is out:

De nada! Just a tiny tribute to your awesome work. I currently have some days off and am trying to wrap my head around CC and how to make music with it which makes sense to me (as far as I can see, the next version will support this massively).

It is a really ‘dense’ script. I just figured out the meta sequencing page and will document this also with some easy to follow use cases/cooking recipies (for the sake of my bad memory; but I am sure this can be useful for others as well).

Very well done and super helpful. Thank you!

Hey all!

Am I to believe correctly that I’m unable to run Cheat Codes v1.3.1 on my version of DIY Norns (200323). Would love that external clocking feature. I don’t see that option when in the timing menu within Cheat Codes.

Thanks for the insight!

Nick

hey hey!

cheat codes requires 200424 or higher for all functions – could you try updating your shield to the latest system software and let me know if that doesn’t solve things?

Hey Dan!

Looks like I’m running 200712. Just updated today.

Thanks for the help. Loving your app already!

Nick

Hey Dan,

Sorry, I should clarify. The DIY Norns PCB board says 200323. That’s where I pulled that number from. I wasn’t sure if that board was limited to that version of software or not. Sorry totally naive to that stuff. I did check for updates and it looks like the Norns OS updated to 200712 today.

Nick

no worries! glad we got the OS stuff sorted — did you find success with the update? everything is just linked to the global clock, so whatever source you choose in the params will trickle down to the quant mode

Hmm, for some reason, still not seeing the “clk” option in the menu that looks like this:

That’s the correct timing screen right? Basing it off the tutorial vid on youtube.

My screen looks like this:

I reinstalled Cheat Codes from Maiden today. It’s hard to tell what version it is but I’m assuming Maiden is kept updated? When clicking “update” is says it’s already updated.

I can confirm the Norns OS is 200712 and the OS clock is set to Midi. When I play back from my DAW the OS syncs properly. Just not seeing the “clk” sync options within Cheat Codes.

Thanks again for the help,

Nick

oh! apologies, the youtube video is a bit behind. if you change the rec mode to quant, that will sync to whatever the params > clock setting is. so if that’s set to midi, then quant will also sync to incoming midi

the manual should be updated to reflect this workflow, plz lmk if u run into any more trouble!

Phew!

Thanks for clarifying. Been making my way through the manual. Can’t wait to dig in tomorrow! Gonna be a good day

a lot of my samples are less loops and more single key, one shot or pad chords. What is some way of setting different pitches for a clip across its pads? not doing too much live input as it is. I’m sure there is something I missed beyond global pitch shift for clips. mostly get (wild) pitch shifting using random. spent a few hours trying to dig into this next to the manual (which is beautiful I really need to print this thing). something in there’s eluded me. any help appreciated! thanks so much.
