Thanks! This worked for me by setting it to 9000 on the Norns to match the default IN for Touch OSC on the Android tablet - amazing stuff; now all I have to do I learn how to use CC (the manual is very helpful in this now that I’ve got the tablet working with acceptable latency). Good stuff @dan_derks!

Hello!

@dan_derks - You’ve been busy man! I leave for a few months and there’s multiple new beta versions since I’ve been gone. LOL. Nice work man!

Is there a way for the pads to represent CV/Midi Note Data? I know there’s only 16 pads per bank, but even having an octave of CV/Midi notes could be sweet for controlling soft synths.

Just dove back in with Cheat Codes, it looks like theres some CC compatibility between the OP and Cheat? Is a computer able to see that Pad to CC data via a Midi to USB hub? I could use something like Bome Midi Translator to convert CC to Note data…

Thanks in advance!

Nick

Hi. Sorry if this is a noob question or it has been answered.

I am new to Norns and just got Norns Shield (no grid). I am really curious about Cheat Codes but I am not able to get it going propperly I guess.

When I set buffer to record and play some audio in I am not able to get loops to start looping and play the recorded material. The only way I can hear sound is when I am manualy setting offset and therefore the “playhead” starts moving.

Is there a way to trigger it to play somehow? I am sorry I guess I must be missing something obvious. Hope this makes sense.

Thanks in advance.

Jan.

hey jan! welcome!

you’re not missing anything – there’s a new version of cheat codes coming out this month that addresses gridless play in a lot of nice ways, like how to get a pad looping without a grid.

for cheat codes 1, you either need a grid or you can use the TouchOSC template, which gives you a lot of the grid controls on a phone or tablet: https://llllllll.co/uploads/short-url/kUtUb6ls36qqDaRVzSuDnkY31Mg.zip. that’ll be the best solution until cheat codes 2 :sparkles:

Hello Dan. Thanks a lot for your fast reply! It will save me couple of hours  I will go with the TouchOSC.

Looking forward to the new version. Thanks for awesome job.

from https://llllllll.co/t/norns-clock/30738/94:

@Wocco, happy to add this into cc2, if we can get a consensus on what would be ideal usage

currently, I consider recorded patterns to be the only “these need to all start playing on a 1” feature. this is where the meta-sequencer and the pat launch quant PARAM each come into play currently, but i could def get behind making this more transparent.

some thoughts:

  • i could add a grid button that acts as a “reset on the next 1” function
  • when clocked internally or via Link, this could queue up a reset of any playing pattern on the start of the next bar
  • when MIDI clocking is involved, i guess this could send a reset to the MIDI clock (if norns is the leader) or it could reset any playing pattern if a MIDI start message is received (if norns is the follower)?
  • maybe the meta sequencer could have its own reset button which just brings all the playheads to “1” at the next bar / MIDI start message?

lemme know what situations you’re facing and what would work best for you!

Amazing!

You are right, playing and looping patterns is the primary use case for trigger and reset and this would fulfill my desire.

Currently I am using crow to sync CC through Norns as a follower in a network of other midi instruments for live performance. I am in need of tight start/loop so it behaves in a live mix.

Would be nice if the playhead of the recorder and buffer were synced with the reset.

And a wait for next reset to trigger a pattern could be useful in this context as well.

Could be integrated as new rec mode called quant+clip that triggers and syncs cc patterns like a clip in ableton.

im very eager to print out the cc2 manual and start diving into it. im going to make it a personal goal to learn that thing inside out

I don’t know why but I start playing CC only yesterday: one of the most inspiring sample/looping experience that I’ve ever had!
I had the chance to purchase a second hand Arc, and I might say that it is so so so helpful to complete the interface.
One of my fav scripts🖤

Thank you for putting your ideas in this “playable canvas”!

Hello with a noob question again. But just for a peace of mind. Do I understand it correctly that it is not possible to record patterns with Touch OSC? Do I need grid for that?

P.S. Love this script. Dreams are coming true. Thanks everyone.

correct – pattern playback ends up introducing too many packets, which slows down the TouchOSC UI feedback a ton. cheat codes 2 will have full MIDI control, though, with pattern recording

thanks so much for the kind words, hope you keep exploring!! :sparkles:

Thank you! Full MIDI control sounds great!   will have to justify buying Grid next time

Just a little practice with CC but a ton of fun!
I’ve recorded a Banjo and a Tibetan bowl in the first two buffers and then I’ve play around with them.
The chance to record every gesture is really appreciable🙂

Hello lovely people, (cc: @dan_derks). I have another problem. I thought this was perhaps connected with getting the TouchOSC to work. Alas not!

I’m not getting any output via Cheat Codes. I have output on tape and compass and other scripts. Also in the alt menu (K1 long press on loops) I have set prerecorded clips in all 3 banks and set L1, L2 and L3 to recording. When I set the clips I can hear a sample of them but they don’t play back in order for me to manipulate them.

Does anyone have any other ideas I can try? I already deleted and reinstalled CC on Maiden to see if that would help. Thanks a lot.

hi sophie!

just to confirm, to set up clips for all pads in a bank on cheat codes 1.3.1:

  • visit PARMS > loops + buffers and load a sample into clip 1 sample
  • on the loops page, hold K1 and turn E1 till you get to the 16th pad
    • since pads can have unique clips, you’re likely just setting the first pad’s audio
    • pad 16 sets the value for all the pads in the bank, so by changing the buffer to Clip: 1 on pad 16, you’re setting it for all pads in bank A
  • this’ll be the same if you want the pads to use one of the Live buffers – just set pad 16 to the desired buffer

hopefully that solve things, but lmk! fwiw, this is all way easier in the upcoming cheat codes 2 (out next week)

Hi Dan,

Thanks for getting back so quickly!

I had read your response to someone else with this issue and tried this. No avail!

I have loaded a clip: Parameters > Edit > loops + buffers > clip 1

Changed to 16th pad and allocated clip 1. We now get the message (pad 16 overwrites bank!)

Set all Ls recording.

Still no output.

Any other ideas…?

I knew Cheat Codes 2 was on the way but didn’t realise it was so close! I was going to spend some big time with the manual over the coming days but seeing as number 2 is out soon I think I’ll wait for that one.

Cheers for being great.

hmm. when you play the pads on the TouchOSC interface, are they actually changing the pad displayed on the loops page?

cheers to you for being great!!

No idea what happened but it’s working now! Put norns to sleep whilst I ate, came back and we’re all systems go. Got some really interesting patterns flying in minutes! Really looking forward to what Cheat Codes 2 brings. Thanks again
