might already be an obvious go-to for ya but the Eli Feildsteel tutorials really are excellent and totally introductory (and free)

I personally don’t really think anyone needs a tutor to learn a synthesis language but I guess everyone has their own learning style & preferences

ahhh that’s fair yea - I could see how having some kind of programming background would speed up the learning curve

short of providing what yr looking for one option could be trying out something closer to conventional programming to get a little better handle on the logic side of things (maybe something like Processing). might not help you personally but just a thought. sometimes it’s a good foundation to have

What about a Supercollider/norns meetup group for Chicago? I have modified a few examples from the docs for my own purposes but would love to learn more about all of it.

full disclosure I started learning supercollider about a week ago hopefully I’m not coming off like an expert ovr here

always down to talk music code stuff in general tho - I’ve spent far too much of my last two years wading through max/msp spaghetti + @dan_derks is a certified norns & max for live expert. a THING could certainly be arranged

An SC meetup would be rad. I’ve been dabbling in SC for years so I have a pretty decent understanding of it. I don’t really have time to do any sort of formal training but I’m happy to help people figure out the basics in small bursts. There’s also a slack (scsynth.slack.com) that has a bunch of really experience SC devs and maintainers, that might be a good starting place!

Count me in for any January meetup. Even just to see what people have been doing in person would tickle the brain.

Nice. Derek (Formants) is a good dude, we’ve played several shows together.

I’m excited (and maybe a little anxious) to be playing on a bill with a bunch of people I don’t know!

New (awesome) record store alert!

The shop is called Interstellar Space and it’s located in Ravenswood (near the intersection of Montrose and Damen/next to Slim’s). They specialize in jazz, avant-garde, 20th century classical, new age, funk and world music. Definitely worth a trip.

Hi,
Just letting y’all know about another show I’m playing Friday, at Cafe Mustache.

Long standing Chicago music vet Dan Schiender has these monthly variety shows, where his group Singleman Affair does a residency an he invites a variety of people to play. I’ll be doing my duo called Levinson/Mahlmeister and we’ll be doing a mostly modular set. Also on the bill are Matt Clark (Joan of Arc), Jessica Mance, Solt (Featuring Paul Giallorenzo, Michael Hartman, Neil Jendon) and Casey Larwood.

Starts at 9pm.
