Hi,

I think I remember having seen a video of the beta version which dealt with the delay section in detail. I can’t find it anymore. Maybe I am mistaken. Or is there someone who knows what video I am talking about?

hey hey! it receded into the ether of the twitch graveyard. i’ll check to see if it’s in my computer when i’m able, but documentation is in progress and we should be up and running with public release and online docs in a month!

if you have any specific q’s, there are a few experts lurkin which could help clarify in the meantime! otherwise, if you found a bug or something that just doesn’t seem right, please report it to the cc2 beta github :revolving_hearts:

Ah, so my mind did not trick me… It is okay. I can wait.

I had some spare time and was working on the cheat sheet. Most grid elements on the delay page are obvious but others are still not really clear to me, so I wanted to watch the video again to maybe clear that up.

ah, gotcha, yeah — that’d be dope! i’m kinda struggling with the best way to represent grid controls in a clean way. i’m gonna do some short videos illustrating cause-and-effect for those who haven’t touched the script, but i think a cheat sheet is wicked effective for folks who are starting to get the hang of things but need a quick ref. you did such a great job with 1.0, so it doesn’t make sense for a “meh” version to eat up time

i’ll hit you up tomorrow AM and am happy to answer any q’s you have to get your work folded into the official docs!

@dan_derks When muting the delay lines with the mute buttons below delay L/R volume, and then changing pages and releasing the mute, you cannot then unmute the delay lines. (at least I’ve tried a few button combos to work it out but coulndt).
BTW it is awesome that you can hold the mute and then go to the pad page and change things and come back to the delay page.
Obviously the fact that it gets stuck on mute is not intentional?

Here’s a quick drawing off the top of my head of the delay page on the grid (edit: picture updated for future reference)

It’s an amazing addition to CC. A lot of times I end up staying on the delay page to generate entire tracks. Love using the bank pads on the delay page to «lock in sounds» into a delay line with lots of feedback while using the momentary buttons to generate rythm variations.

Also added a link to an IG video I did (sorry for the self promotion!). it shows the delay functions in action with lots of feedback and momentary button + pitch shift gestures. Levels of L and R delay pops up and down because I’ve used RND delay send

Ah! Great. Most of it I was being to find out by using and looking at the screen. But not the ‘Save settings’ keys. Also not the different position of the alt key.

Thanks for that!!

both the capture and the doc are really wonderful, hans. thank you for sharing them! @mbutz, i was gonna DM but then this gorgeous image pretty much covers things, though note that the delay grid page is still a tiny bit under construction.

however, a quick note about the “ALT L” and “ALT R”: these are momentary buttons to quickly flip between either 100% or 0% for the pad’s send – there’s a global ALT in the bottom left corner which you can use to set all the pads in the bank to a specified level.

also:

  • the first two buttons in the 3rd and 6th columns will double or halve the delay line’s length
  • the third button in those columns will reverse the delay’s playback direction
  • i just added a zilchmo 4 underneath the pads on this page, which helps keep you on this page (in upcoming beta)

more re: saving settings:

  • press + hold a blank slot until the slot illuminates
  • the delay line’s rate, length, and level are all saved
  • you can ALT + slot to erase any saved slot

oy. i need to put a code freeze on myself, lol. this has to get done and documented!

here’s the delay video, posted to vimeo in case it helps:

Ah, messed up the alt+L and alt +R  Dan’s video is highly recommended :+1:t2:
Edit: updated my sketch with the right settings

a thought i just had for the delay page: in addition to L and R, would it be possible to get a B (both) page if we wanted to rapidly change the delay times and such to be the same on both channels without having to go back and forth? or is there a shortcut that I just don’t about yet?

hey hey! got it logged, nothing in effect yet

oh great! i should dig into the github. been messing with this a bunch but didn’t consider myself well versed enough to be a beta tester, ha.

oh! if you’re testing, you’re versed! :sparkles:

please lmk if you discover any other zones where a refinement could help with performance!

delete delete delete please

oh no! i was just waiting until i had a new beta ready today to respond, but the tl;dr is:

  • you can run live audio directly into the delay section
  • reverse is totally possible! it’s super fun
  • i appreciate your enthusiasm for the delay!

no worries! i should have spent a little more time digging deeper into the thread and I would have found the answers :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

had my first run using cheat codes with the grid last evening and had SO much fun. thanks for responding and looking forward to 2.0!

beta 5

:tada:
WOO! very very close. addresses many things.

many many thanks to everyone who’s logged issues on github and for all the super strong positivity. please let me know if anything breaks! :revolving_hearts:

norns UI

fixed #21 :

  • k1 hold on main screen is now normal 250ms, in any other screen is now newer 100ms
    • if you get stuck, just k2 back to main and you can get to the top-level norns menu

[loops]

addresses #26 :

  • k3 returns as the vertical navigation tool

[loops] page: banks

  • NEW: hold k1 and use e1 to navigate horizontal menus
    • loop points (default view)
    • rate + slew
    • audio source + offset
  • NEW: e1 on alternate horizontal menus changes current pad
  • NEW: hold k1 and use e2 and e3 to perform special functions:
    • loop points (default view): fine-grain movement (10ms)
    • rate + slew: map value to all pads
    • audio source+ offset: map value to all pads

[loops] page: buffer

  • NEW: hold k1 and use e1 to navigate horizontal menus
    • loop points (default view)
    • total time + feedback
    • mode + random record probability
  • NEW: hold k1 and press k2 on loop points to pause recording (touches on #24 )
  • TODO: allow buffer change with e1 on alternate horizontal menus

[delays]

  • NEW: link parameters (addresses #20 )
    • hold k1 and press k3 on any parameter to link it to the other delay line
    • if parameter values are different, non-visible delay will adjust to the visible delay’s parameter value
    • once linked, changes on either will affect the other
    • MIDI control is also affected – if you MIDI map a linked parameter, you can control that parameter for both delay lines with one slider
    • hold k1 and press k3 on any parameter to unlink a linked parameter

grid UI

fixed #7 :

  • zilchmo 4 added to delay grid page (underneath 4x4 pad controls)
  • loop button added to delay grid page (bottom right of 4x4 pad controls)
  • arp button added to delay grid page (above the loop button)

fixed #28:

  • no more weirdness if you hold a momentary grid delay mute and change pages (@yoyosandshoes)

found a few missed redraws, always lookin’ for more!

misc

  • fixed #27 , which stops phantom [rnd]'s from continuing if a new collection is loaded
  • 4-step varibright support added! see PARAMS > GRID > LED style (persists between loads)
  • if you don’t like it when changing a pad’s buffer causes the pad to play, turn it off in PARAMS > loops + buffers > global : preview clip changes
  • fixed some midi echo troubles
  • fixed #19
  • y’all saw all the stuff about reverse delays, yeah?
  • fixed #23 , so you can fade loops into the delays!

small sounds of tests:

Such a brilliant idea! And it still keeps the delay page nice and pretty! Woot woot!

messed around with the new beta for a while today, it’s so so so good. couple ideas for the delay:

linking R/L works great. on grid, would it be possible to link the reverse and momentary buttons (like how the rate buttons work)? along those lines, maybe a “lock all parameters” shortcut? k1+k3 when the delay menu is highlighting L or R?

it would also be super handy to have the delay send levels for the external input somewhere on the grid.
