I’ve had the Morningstar MC6 for a while and its gotten better and better with updates. Programming is super easy. I use it primarily with guitar pedals.
The other one I have been curious about is the Hotone Ampero Control:
Does not have all the features but ability to program with a phone app over bluetooth would be cool. Also can send midi over 5 pin, USB and bluetooth.

Yeah it really makes me want it even more. I’ve seen the Ampero and some other cool looking ones of the same format, but I’m still afraid 4 switches is too little. I’m already not convinced by the MC6 because I don’t want to use the “press two switches to move banks” gesture which is why I’m leaning more towards MC8 territory (also, bigger screen real estate is good for some of the more complex things I want to program). But it’s really nice to have some feedback after updates on the MC6 !

I don’t like the two switch dance either
A bit wasteful of a port but I made a 3 button external pedal(red switch toppers) for banking up and down, as well as switching between pages.
Makes it a much better experience and still has another TRS jack I can use for an expression pedal.

I love how earnest, detailed and straightforward that post is by the way, not that common I feel in kickstarter / crowdfunded projects. Hope he’ll manage to get where he wants to and deliver without too much problem, I know setbacks like this can typically be the kind of problems that really make a genuine kickstarter attempt super problematic for the maker.

Hey! I’m the creator of said controller and noticed some traffic from this website so I thought I’d check it out
The post you linked to was by no means meant to be interpreted as a sort of downer, it was just a bump in the road (as there are many). I like to be open about the project so people know what to expect and when they can expect it
(my girlfriend already warned me that it was too negative but I was stubborn
).
The follow up post is a lot more positive: Good news – midique

Interested in the FBV for MIDI. Would you say the footswitches are quiet? I have another controller with the standard metal switch and they are super loud whenever you step in them.

They’re not silent, but they’re not particularly loud either.

Anyone knows of a similar small diy project to the tamagotchi thing?
So after the OffGrid finally came out with it’s editor and realizing that it’s (still) not possible to have decoupled LED feedback, I’m back on the hunt for a good/compact controller.
At the moment I’m starting to design something from scratch, perhaps using a 4x4 Trellis grid to be able to do cheat codes-type interactions, maybe a cherry 2x2 grid, perhaps an analog 2d joystick etc… Essentially copying the form factor of the OffGrid a bit.
That being said, I was reminded of the “streamdeck”-type interfaces that seem quite common.
I mean, this would be a really boring/useless MIDI controller (even with the little “screens”):
But something like this could have more possibilities:
From the looks of it, there are some built-in templates for Live/Logic/etc… and you can navigate some stuff at a pretty high-level (moving into devices, etc…):
I had a quick google but I couldn’t find anyone doing anything besides the default mappings for these apps. So wondering how configurable it is, say in Max or M4L.
Also not entirely sure how it communicates to the OS, like do you need to have the host app running all the time. Which is a bit of a concern if that’s a dependency.
Anyone have any experience with these kinds of “controllers”?

I’ve been trying not to talk too much about projects in progress just in case they don’t pan out, but since this is the second time the Streamdeck has come up today I will risk admitting that I have been working on Streamdeck support for the norns. They are HID devices and can be used out of the box as button controllers, but custom output and feature reports are required to be able to send button images over.

The buyers of music gear is a far, far larger group than professional musicians who make a living at it, and that’s been the case for a long time. There are many aspiring musicians, and many more who just enjoy making music as a hobby, with no intention of making the gear pay for itself.
And remember, bubbles are good things for consumers; it means that gear that wouldn’t otherwise exist becomes available. Not that I actually think this is a bubble.

Not sure if they’ve come up on this thread yet but I’ve been really enjoying using the intech controllers (https://intech.studio/ )
Tbh for me the coding possibilities are a bit beyond my skill set but could be super flexible for someone who knows what they’re doing , plus the forum is super helpful.

I’ve been thinking about getting back into TouchOSC as perhaps a global/macro controller, but it’s been aaaaages since I mess with this stuff.
Kind of a silly/noob-ish question, but does anyone know if it’s possible to have OSC (or I guess MIDI is fine) over a USB cable with no network connection at all going?
Basically I’d only want to do this if I can have a dedicated iDevice for this purpose where it just lives connected to the drum/cable, and I really don’t want to have to create local networks or search for wifi at every gig etc…
I can see that there’s an TouchOSC Bridge app now, but it’s a bit unclear to me if you can do OSC over a wired connection sans network etc…

Not sure about OSC but you can have MIDI over USB between an iDevice and a Mac when you set it up in Audio MIDI preferences on the Mac. Same goes with audio over USB.

wrote my first code for Retrokits RK002 using their DUY environment and arduino compiler. I’m not into coding but that went smooth. It’s a very simple translator that converts CC message to a Program Change command. What a neat platform that is!

Do you know the Massive Midi Modulator? That’s a fun, quite unknown one. Also unusual, it’s just CC modulation (168 no less) and syncable + performable. Love mine.

I wasn’t familiar with it.
Kind of weird not having a photo on the webpage at all!
From the looks of the video, I’m guessing it’s based on 2x of the NeoTrellis things in a laser cut enclosure (likely with a Teensy onboard):
edit:
Screencap from the video:

Turns out it’s a NeoTrellis M4 straight up, presumably with custom firmware.
I have been thinking lately that I will end up making something in a similar form factor. Or rather, making a “monome 32” grid, trying to get the same look as the current/modern grids, but in a 1/4 size (4x8).
Even thought about CNCing an aluminum top for it, but I could probably get a closer match to the look with grey PLA plastic than trying to home/diy anodize metal.

I don’t have experience with it but came across this midi joystick, button, encoder device today:
Built on the SparkFun platform and 3d printed. USBc or DIN and looks compact without being too small.
