ran into a couple of issues…

2 out of 3 norns gave me an error when trying to update through maiden.

using maiden: i had to delete the old install and then do a new install of 3.0

other problem is with audio play through.
sometimes audio will not play through norns until i get back out of recording in Compass.
note: i’m recording mono signals into Compass. i did set the mono setting on the parameters page)

on one norns…it just will not play audio through at all.
in fact i was recording into it and it wouldn’t produce any sound even after recording.
(i double checked levels on the main screen to see if there was audio coming in)

i originally recorded with only “}” in the sequence and i turned off the “softcut slash” function just to make sure it wasn’t in the sequence as well once i randomized things.

rebooted twice and finally got some audio playback but still no monitoring of the incoming signal.

Don’t know if it’s relevant, but I’ve once had an issue where I’ve had no input monitoring despite the levels being apparently set correctly after a reboot of Norns (not using compass 3). Turning the monitor level down and then up again on the levels page fixed it. Maybe try that?

@SPIKE - that sounds weird! Haven’t come across anything like that, and as far as I can remember, input/routing setup hasn’t changed in this version. I assume you’re running the latest version of Norns on all 3 units?

I’ll double-check everything this morning.

Just installed compass 3.0 and gave it a quick spin with a reface cp. wow, grid support makes this so much fun. Thanks a lot for the hard work.

Hi @Olivier! enjoying the new updates.

I think I may have found a bug (potentially).

When using the “Toggle Recording on/off” command or even just popping it in, I notice that my audio stops completely. I have a feeling this is deleting all of the audio in the buffer. I think.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

EDIT: My mistake. the “/” command freaked me out. nothing to see here folks :slight_smile:

This is probably a silly question, but is there a way to pause playback? I know that I can stop the sequencer, but I find myself wanting to pause the playheads as well. Sorry if I’m missing something!

Ah, interesting! Will play around with the idea of play/pause today. It’s likely a small change, so I’ll bundle it up with other tweaks.

I’m having the same problem as @SPIKE. I managed to get audio playing back once but still could not hear the monitoring. i’m also trying to use mono input (l) and adjusting the edit options accordingly. I did try removing the softcut playback/record functions in case that was doing something but that doesn’t seem to help either. I am in 3.0 and did reinstall recently to see if that would help. (on a Fates, most recent firmware)

*Edit: i forget to add this, but also, when it was working the one time, when audio would play back, it only played when “record” was enabled (the block/square icon in the top right was lit/white/filled in/activated). but no monitoring ever

it is incredible when it does work. i really love this script

Damn :sweat: Well, this honestly has me completely stumped. I’ve been testing all day with various configurations and still can’t reproduce this issue. Really curious if others are experiencing this too.

Part of me wonders if there isn’t something else going on with the jack process behind the scenes. Have you tried a SYSTEM > RESET? Try that with maiden open, and please do report back if you see any errors pop up there (either after reset or during usage).

Really love the magical things that Compass can do at the chain! Feel like I’m only scratching the surface really, but here’s a couple of recent experiments as part of an attempt to improvise for 30 minutes first thing each morning. I love how it feels like an improvising musical partner somehow.
