Disquiet Junto 0270 “Just Duet”

  1. Used this website to generate a random number.

  2. Random number that was generated was # 9.

  3. Track # 9 was created by Detritus Tabu3 titled “ Nike Mountain Shuffle “.

  4. Downloaded the track and imported it into Reaper.

  5. Loaded up “ Alto-Ego” vsti on an instrument track in Reaper.

  6. Typed in to the text field of “Alto-Ego the words “ Disquiet, Junto, Just, Duet” and played these along with the original downloaded track.

  7. Rendered the project and had it mastered by Landr for Soundcloud and uploaded to Soundcloud.

Good day,

I also decided to do a second duet. When I first listened to the song of Danny Clay, I noticed that it had my name on the picture. Before the new Junto came out, I wanted to use this song.
The instrument I used is my phone(does that count?) An hour ago, a worker was cleaning scaffolding and I started recording that. Than I realized that I already downloaded ‘Celesta slow practice’ and mixed it with my recording.
Should this become a million seller, please don’t inform Attan(guy who cleaned the scaffolding), or we have to split the royalties.

I plug a Blofeld expander and did an improvisation with cut of and resonance games, and control pad for chickens!!!

NOT JUNTO but still…I was not happy with the last duet I turned in but I was sure I could hear that melody line in there. I went back and changed sounds on the original midi tracks and added midi fx. I know this is against the live performance stipulation but I think this gets closer to a duet feel. I take a Mulligan.

In this piece, I used a different version of the “instrument” I played live for Disquiet 0269 to react to Benn DeMole’s recording. In 0269 I let the instrument reverberation determine the timing. In this piece I let the flow of Benn’s voice dictate the timing. My vision was one of a traveler taking a walk at an abandoned rest stop, unaware that an entity of unknown origin is observing. My thanks to Benn DeMole for his part in this duet.

Number 40 was randomly selected, which gave me this piece by bassling for my duet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xrrZy3ADAhs

I downloaded the wav file from bassling’s blog (http://bassling.blogspot.com/2017/02/disquiet-junto-0269-duet-portion.html), imported it into Reaper, and set up markers for different sections. Then I experimented with different instruments, chords, and riffs, finally settling on the electric guitar heard here. I recorded a few takes straight through, and decided that this one was the best of the bunch.

Thanks to bassling for his half of the duet!

I picked no. 5, telechir - half of four hands, and added another half of four hands.
I got out my Kurzweil from my storeroom where I had deposited it because I have only very limited space for my
musicmaking. I listened several times, played several times along to figure out the notes, and then played it in one go. I love the sound to the wurlitzer in general, and here it comes with a reverb delay from a cheap guitar effect…

There are so many wonderful contributions to the disquiet0269, that I wanted to add a part to several half-duets.
If I could and had the time, to all of these.
I had picked no. 2, kamikuma, and no. 14, Lionel Benancie, and tried out several approaches. When I wanted to transfer it from my multitrack-tascam - where I do all my work - to the computer, I forgot to mute one the these projects, so they started playing at the same time. This sounds interesting, I thought, and … here we go.
I had played a bass to kamikuma´s half-duet, and a bit of percussion on the wavedrum to Lionel´s track.
this is of course not according to the idea of the project, but I thought it might be interesting nonetheless

Strictly taken this one does not fit the idea of this project to add a half to a half-duet, because I added - so to say - two halves by playing two tracks, by playing first the drums, then the bass.
I felt tempted to upload it with only bass or only drums, but this didn´t seem to fit, there was something missing about it, which made me feel uncomfortable. This is why I uploaded it this way

If first randomly drew my own first half submission, so I rolled again. I got #30: @plusch’s lovely, delicate Up in the Air.

Finding a good electronic instrument to play against it was easy enough… composing a complementary part to such rich minimalism was very challenging. I had assumed I’d play live with timbre much more, but in the end let just the subtle gesture variations speak against the simple, repetitive line - much as the piano part does.

I do wish my performance skills were up to the task… I’d love to perform this live, since I think getting the loose tempo feel to it would be much easier in person, rather than trying to match a recording.

Since I couldn’t sleep, I started doing the number thing(again) and I stopped when it(completely randomly, ya ya) picked Kamikuma’s song.

I see, I am not the only one to upload more than one track. As I said before, there are so many beautiful contributions the half a duet - disquiet junto project, I´d like to do more.
I listened to Ohm Research´s track repeatedly, then turned to my keyboard with these impressions, and came up with a theme very soon, varying between verse and chorus
