oh. my. goodness.

I’ve been away from my norns for a couple weeks and have been very excited to get back to it to try out this script, only have enough time to scratch the surface, norns controls only and prerecorded tape files. Instant smile. Excited to jump in deeper with grid and and a mic.

thanks @xmacex that’s the case here. @orbit_f there’s the possibility of changing the routing within the script e.g., like otis does, but it’s something I’d need to look into first. love how the filter pinging sounds btw.

@mlogger thank you so much. While working on the script at some point I had loaded some fm drum sounds and it instantly reminded me of you  glad you’re enjoying the script.

@mattymattmatt I’ll see if I can find a way to add a global slew param and keep the current tape transport working as it is.

@sunbeamer hell yeah, pattern recording is a great idea. If I add this I’d prob limit it to one pattern and rate speed only as the script is quite feature packed already. But who knows, I might add more things further on.

@stvnrgrs “ARM REC” is means that that recording is armed for “threshold recording”. When the audio input reaches the threshold specified in the parameters recording starts. One thing I noticed that it cannot be disengaged via norns once engaged. This does work via grid though.

@Wisdom.Water Thanks! A few follow up Q’s:

  1. By ignore do you mean that the envelope is not triggered any more? Is it set to mono or poly and what are your env. parameters?
  2. I’m a bit puzzled here. size value is relative 0-100%, so size cannot be greater that the splice length. also the visualisation of size does not change when changing splices. with “encoder leds rotating around the knob” do you mean the led’s of the “slide” encoder? They visualize the position of the four playheads.
  3. this is intended behaviour as the ghost playhead is not coupled to the envelopes. however, I totally get your use case and see that I’ll add this type of behaviour to the list.
  4. Is this only the case with concrète or with other scripts too?

Oh yeah- I hadn’t considered that rate slew is already occupied with the tape transport. I wouldn’t worry about it in that case! It’s fantastic as is!

Thanks for the explanations on my questions! Re 1) if I program a sequence as C3 C3 C3 in poly envelope mode from external midi sequencer on every 16th note, it will ignore some triggers for the envelope. I tried changing gate length, which sometimes improves the trigger of the envelope, but in general I could not manage to trigger on every 16th note at 130bpm. I set the envelope to be very short, attack / sustain / release at 0 and a little decay value. Maybe something to do with envelope retrigger time?

thanks. yep, makes sense. currently the env is clocked at a rate of 1/10s so there might be dropouts. I’d have to look into making the update rate of the envelope faster but that needs some testing first.

@sonoCircuit and @boblachapelle sid you resolve this unit error and then loading hanging issue? I have the same issue and have tried a few things.

Yes. Sorry for not closing the loop. You need to be sure you‘re norns has been flashed with the latest image and updated to the most recent version.

Thanks for the fast reply. Yes it appears that i need an update. I have previously reflashed. My nonrs was almost full so its a bit of care and maintenance on my end before I can test try again but im really looking forward to this amazing script. Thank you!

Just wanted to give my praise and thanks here!
I had been neglecting my norns for a while, but this certainly piqued my interest, as I’d always wanted to play with morphagene despite not having a euro setup.
Seeing this script inspired me to get out the norns again and I had a blast playing with this script last night.
Easy to get into but lots of complexity to explore!
Very well done, thank you for sharing!

Closing the loop on this - seems I had not successfully reflagged Norns and so had not updated. All done successfully now and the script is working perfectly, thank you

wow morphangene was one of my favorite modules but I got rid of it in the eurorack purge–– I think I like your script even better. can’t wait to wire in some mods from pam, my other favorite lost module recreated on norns.

thank you <3

100% agree. All the joy of MG, but having it laid out in front of me with tactile controls…it’s a thing of beauty. So much to love.

Thanks for the script @sonoCircuit

I’m out of Euro these days and Morphagene is one of the modules I miss most.

One of my favourite things to do was to modulate the slice selection, size and morph parameters, any chance of adding LFO’s in future similar to MLRE to allow for that?

While the GRID is performative, it would be nice to have an “automated” option.

I’m pretty sure built in LFOs will come to Concrete, meanwhile, you could use Matrix mod. That’s what I use for the same purpose as you!

I’ve been doing this from my Hapax, so much fun

I’ve had a bit of time to dive into this amazing script - it’s wonderful thank you. I was just using it as a wonderful accompaniment to playing some op 1 samples to and to this end think a basic pattern recorder (as mentioned above) would work wonderfully, or some other modulation of the splices would be amazing.
A question which may be a settling I accidentally changed, halfway through my session live recording would start from (visually, according to the screen) the far right of the reel, and then leave silence at the far left. It’s like I have pre determined the reel length prior to recording. I am using the armed recording functionality. I have restarted the script a number of times and sort to find a setting I may have inadvertently changed but can’t find it … any ideas?

Loving this script @sonoCircuit !
Quick question: on page 7 of the manual , when describing the “splice keys” section of the grid, it says “This section displays the first 18 splices of a reel” - and yet there are 24 buttons in that section (?) Am i missing something?
Also, does this mean that I can only use the grid to switch between the first 24 (or18!) splices of my reel? What if I have a long reel, with 40 slices?

Edit: I meant 40 “splices” of course. Musta been thinking of pizza when I wrote “40 slices”… :yum:

Thank you all so much for the kind words :revolving_hearts: makes me really happy that you’re enjoying this script so much.

@mattallison yeah, totally agree, modulation possibilities are missing. as @JosueArias said, lfo’s will be coming to concrète! in fact, they are already there, but still commented out. There were a few changes to the lfo library I wanted to make but never managed to fully wrap my head around it. in the meanwhile @dani_derks made some great improvements and I believe these should come with the next update. anyways, it’s on my list and should be coming soon. also, modulation via crow inputs should become a thing.

@yoyosandshoes

If you’re starting fresh, without loading a pset the script should load in it’s default state. could you please make a short vid of the described behaviour and send it to me via DM. not sure I fully understand what you’re experiencing.

@ampism yikes! that typo is a biggie. yes, 24 splices and not 18, sorry for the confusion. and yes, unfortunately you can only select the first 24 via grid. Adding a “page” key to switch to the next 24 might be a good thing. real-estate on the grid is slowly running out though.

I’d love to have pizza with 40 slices, yum :pizza:

This script is fun to play, fun to look at, and it sounds super awesome! I’m a huge fan. The next few tracks I make are going to be dripping with concrete, the secrete sauce lol
