Hey,
Can I still do all the stuff I had fun with pre-grid integration?
I can sneak a norns in my tour luggage, but maybe not a norns and a grid!
I don’t mind spending a little time setting up echoes, etc…

Nevermind!! Norns update fixed it.

@lloydcole nothing in the core on-norns functions changed when grid controls were introduced  lmk if there’s anything specific you were curious about tho?

@cfour, dope! I was gonna say, i thought i had updated the panning for newer norns releases  thank you for the positivity and follow-up!!

@lloydcole I can attest that cranes works great sans grid. i actually prefer it that way, else I start fiddling too much. enjoy!

Thank you! I have decided to move on, though. Not because of anything wrong with norns/open source life… but my brain isn’t up to it. I can’t keep learning and relearning. I have no time inbetween to do to music…
I had to choose between norns and iPad and I chose iPad.

Thanks for sharing this @dan_derks

Here’s my recording from todays efforts getting to know Cranes better.

Love this script and have learned a lot today/tonight.

A question regarding this. As soon as my input stops cranes loops quickly dissolve. How do I make them loop?

hey hey! like, you can’t get even your original loop going (paper crane)? or you can’t do overdub/overwrite (^ v floaty birds)?

if you see the ^ v floaty birds, then you’re overdubbing/overwriting. the o1/o2 number specifies the amount. 0.0 is overdub (you are always adding incoming audio on top of existing audio) and 1.0 is overwrite (you are erasing the existing audio with your incoming audio).

so, when you want to add to your loop, just hit K2. if o1/o2 is at 0.0, you won’t erase any audio. if o1/o2 is at 1.0, you’ll overwrite your audio. if you keep the floaty birds engaged and o1/o2 is at anything other than 0.0 and you stop playing, you will get dissolving loops because you’re overwriting your loop with silence. so, you can either disengage the floaty birds with another K2 press or lower the o1/o2 amount.

hope that helps!

I found that in softcut settings everything is 0 by default. After setting engine to 1 it loops nicely:)
Thank you!

whaaaa? that shouldn’t be necessary at all, unless you’ve put cranes into a wrapper that runs alongside an engine?

I’m didn’t do anything with the script, I also set adc level to 1 so maybe that. Otherwise it doesn’t loop

very odd – the SOFTCUT params menu was added recently, but I’m able to run cranes as expected with all of those settings at 0 because cranes initializes its own defaults internally, which includes the adc level (line 78): audio.level_adc_cut(1)

super weird, i’ll keep an eye on it, thank you!

I’ve loaded a Pset at the start. I think it overwrites initialization

OH, yes, that’ll do it. apologies, cranes is in the middle of an update, so the current version is about 5 months older than the params overhaul. thanks so much for the detailed report!

No need to apologize, than you for quick replies

Is there a way to make recording toggles for each channel midi mappable?

totally! i will be doing a cranes overhaul at some point, but @okyeron has spun up a version that adds midi triggers to the script: Cranes
