Approaching: norns

the other new thing is called crow . it’s a collaboration with mannequins (@galapagoose). it’s 2hp, 2in / 4out (bipolar) with USB device input. it’s chainable (internally) and has i2c. norns (and other computers) will use it to speak CV, but it also speaks lua itself and can take itself on its own adventures. it’ll be ready in a few months.

Re-reading that last part has me really intrigued. Can take itself on its own adventures?

Grid-usbmidi hardware bridge

oh oh. this is basically crow with a usb host and no cv (!) which is like a micro-micro-norns in some ways. main issue i see is finding a uC with both a host and device port (not sure this exists). a solution would be a avr8/etc as USB host getting FTDI in/out (connected to grid/arc) and then communicate with main stm32+lua+usbdevice via spi/etc. stm32 could enumerate with multiple usb endpoints: usbmidi + whatever else (serial) this should be a new thread.

My uninformed, uneducated guess would be that Crow allows for an additional layer of lua scripting that handles the behavior of the CV ports, with or without norns/grids plugged in. Which could kinda be a constellation of functionality in itself. I’m getting psyched

Urban crows like to nest on electric transformers and will often use wire hangers or fiberoptic cables as building materials for their nests.

ansible features will not change, but the PCB is changing because we’ll be using a different jack and move everything over to 0402 size components. march 2019 is realistic. arc on track for feb. crow coming!

the hints in the art music technology podcast seem like crow will do some really cool unforeseen stuff. i wonder if it will do something simpler too though, like give norns midi to cv capabilities. cant wait to see!!

It’s a known issue that some trigger sources won’t trigger W/s inputs. Should be fixed in a future update, though we have no specific release date for that as we’re focused on other things at the moment. So in short- it will probably work at some unknown point in the future.
