yeah In this sense ratchet might not be the best description or even possible for that matter. A solarium/tunnel combo or solarium/Dome may fit better.

new pack up: dt1

dt1.arcology (105.7 KB)
dt1.pset (925 Bytes)

just noticed crypts picks up directory index and not name, so as you add more your crypts shift under you. i’ll update that to match on strings.

regarding sampler stuff…
a vote for random or constant dynamics!
:stuck_out_tongue:
also maybe forward and reverse if possible with constant or random possibilities.
oh…another one…like the Topiary…could it switch through the 6 samples?

i know my love for music for airports is not unique, but my experience of the album perhaps is. i had just started college. taking the commuter rail in and out of the city from the burbs… frigid midwestern mornings in cornfields waiting for the train. a second or third gen ipod. chicago, misty and shimmering in the distance. it is a spiritual album for me. i just found this article the other day. so.

this is, of course, only a rough approximation. a palimpsest cover, powered by a windfarm, and overrun with kudzu. requires arcologies v1.1.9 and the newly uploaded airport crypt:

airports.arcology (84.7 KB)
airports.pset (1.2 KB)
airports.als.zip (59.4 KB)

Has anyone had success getting arcologies to load up these presets without a grid connected? I’m eagerly awaiting grids to become available again soon, but I’d love to hear some of these maps that others are creating while I wait…

hey! these should load ok without a grid connected. though i haven’t tested that. if it doesnt work it should be a small change on my end to make it work.

Is there a structure that influences the index of the crypts? I could also see it being useful if you could expose the index value as a mappable parameter to be able to adjust the sample on the fly as the crypt is getting hit by signals.
So many possibilities here. Thanks for sharing the passion project with the community @tyleretters

not yet! there is a new structure in the r&d lab that exposes controls like this via ports - north and south port change pitch, east port increments index, west port triggers…

you just gave me a really exciting idea for where i’m headed with arc support, however. arc is going to be mappable to a lot of stuff.

thanks for the ideas and thanks for giving arcologies a shot!

two new sample packs are up from the illustrious @SPIKE - noiz-01 and noiz-02!

hey tyler

can you give some tips about how to make a pull request? i know this has been beaten to death elsewhere in the forum but you might get more activity if a step by step guide is included here (or on the crypts gh landing page)

so far i’m assuming:

  1. make a sample pack according to the guidelines
  2. fork crypts to make a new branch
  3. upload my pack
  4. submit pr to merge mine with yours?

is this correct???

edit: are stereo samples mandatory? i use ableton and can’t figure out how to make mono samples?

yep! or you can just dm it to me and i will add it.

here’s the mono live easy button:

thanks @LLK reminded me of that feature on export settings

also i would like to practice with the github workflow cause i can make sample packs almost every day

you will tire of uploading for me lol

Are there any guidelines on pitched samples so that they can be transposed correctly when used in Arcologies? Could, for example, 1.wav be in C4 and it would automatically be transposed according to parameter changes made for the arcology?

samples aren’t affected by the global transpose (yet). that is a good idea that i’ll add to the backlog.

Just thinking out loud here but would it be possible to cycle/modulate through multiple crypt folders within one arcology (to allow perhaps 127 samples rather than just 6 samples)?

Or maybe create a new arcology that has that functionality but also draws samples from the crypts folders but has the ability to transpose?

yeah, those are great ideas. i’ve been meaning to come back and make a better sampler structure. i’ll add these to the backlog of ideas :). this is tentatively called the “glacier” you can see other ideas we have here: https://trello.com/c/CFyhIElj

necro’ing my own comment to update a bit. I’ve done some investigation of jFrog’s Artifactory as a potential for a sample repository but unfortunately some of the features I had the notion to use are more or less locked into their enterprise version… and beyond that the code changes are quite substantial.

I’d had the thought that we could hack together some abstract package manifests that, on the server side, would zip of the requested files and serve them together, but if there is a way to implement that without some substantial development, I don’t see it.

Now I’m wondering how sites like Beatport and Bandcamp handle their downloads. From the UX it seems like they keep a repository of uncompressed files that are compressed to the requested format and zipped up on request…
