Then the same can be said of storing a considerable collection of cassettes. Say you like 100 albums (not a crazy number if you are an active listener), 10€ per tape you are at 1000€ already.
Also want to add that living in a very humid area makes storing any kind of physical format not viable unless the room is treated in some way. Heating and/or dehumidifying costs money.
Another argument is data corruption on copy transfers. You could compare that to physical transport of the tapes, accidents can happen; not to mention making actual copies of the tapes, a degrading process by any means.
Of course some tapes can outlast some hard drives, same that some phonograph cylinders can outlast some cassettes but doesn’t make them any more desirable in a broader perspective.
